Actually, you do not need to keep long exposure NR on.....

Mine is kept back to OFF mode.

Not twice but 5 times delay when you are on RAW mode, thats what made me put it back to OFF. In fact I could not find any difference in RAW on both modes. Does it really make a difference ? I am curious.

No, there is no way to edit unapproved posts. And sorry, but we cannot allow back to back posts either. I would recommend gathering all your thoughts in one shot and putting them into a post.

We are going off-topic here, so if you want to continue the discussion, feel free to use the contact us form and write in. But again, strictly no back to back posts, whatever the reason.

On very long exposure in not so low temperatures, it will result in lower number of "hot pixels", i.e blue/green/red dots which randomly appear on the picture.

A few user shots from the 50mm f1/.8G (showing bokeh and sharpness wide open)

stupid:I cannot figure out where the figure of five come from. In normal case the camera takes a shot, and then immediately takes a dark frame of the same duration. As far as I know the camera always shoots in RAW mode, and processes the output it to JPEG or TIFF if required.

The dark frame is used to detect thermal and shot noise which increases in long exposures. By the way the lower the temparature the lower the noise and longer the exposures possible for the same noise figure.

I dont know how to explain that, 5 is not meant in the literal sens but used as a 'longer' delay.

Ok here is something about it straight from the User Manual. D700 Page-277:
"Job nr" will blink in the shutter speed/aperture displays for a period of time approximately equal to the current shutter speed.

That means a 20 second exposure with NR ON can take upto 20 seconds processing time, thats normal. Again, this delay might also depend on the Memory Card grade which is yet to be checked. I have 3 different types, Ultra II, Ultra compact and Extreme.

So it boils down to twice the time taken, that is normal behaviour for "long exposures".

Here is an interesting link where the "clean exposure" times for the Medium Format, P45+ is given (this is one of the worlds best camera backs for long exposures!). It ranges from 8 minutes at 41 degrees to 17 hours at -25 degrees!

Absolutely attractive!!! If I had to chose 'only from the above four' and has no inclination to a particular brand, I would buy the 500D.

Can we(you DSLR Owner) display here nice pics taken only from basic 18-55 lens. This will give new DSLR owner a boost and would try to do some new thing with this lens. It takes a while when new DSLR owner upgrades to other lenses. All composition should be from 18-55 lens with various camera settings.

I want to buy a 50mm 1.8 for D7000.

So, should I buy 50mm 1.8D since D7000 has built in motor. Or, 1.8G is more advanced besides having motor for entry level bodies?

Wow, Canon lists 1100D as 29XXX, even the stores sell it for 28-29K. I got it for 27250/- last week (B&W) and this was the lowest I heard. If you dont mind, could you please share where you got these prices? Also, could you please let me know the price for 50mm 1.8 if your sources sell it?

MY entire ladakh 2009 trip was shot almost exclusively by 18-55 on a 350D.

Yes, the 1.8D is good enough for you. 1.8G will cost significantly more

Dark frame does not measure anything. Its just like taking a pic with lens cap on, and then subtracting this image from your original image.

Any user experiences with Canon 17-55 IS f2.8?
Was plan to upgrade kit lens. Main reasons :

- Good wide range (apart from 10-22)
- Faster lens.
- Also makes a good walk through

Hesitation: Is it worth the price? As I hear that 90% of the snaps can be managed by kit lens (18-55 itself). Main interests : Landscape and Low lights.
Camera is 550D
