First it was the big sensors(DSLR), then full frame and then the medium format and later large format and now 6x17. Phew!!! is it the last size or is there any other bigger than this???

I want to sell it on and get Seitz 6x17 digital but before i do that, i want to have a crack at making my own Scanner Cam and see if its worth the effort.

Just for academic purposes - what would be its cost???

Whats your view on the cam guys? and any suggestion on its usage?

He may not have much choice, look at the final word in the review link I posted. This is one of the rare dSLR that didn't receive Highly Recommended tag.

Well he can still make use of whatever is in his hand. I have shot a lot of images in manual with a sony point and shoot for over 2 years and ended up with quite decent exposures...so I guess all is not lost and he still has a choice.

Its called bellows, but torn bellows not a big thing, nothing that Apollo Gaffer tape cannot fix

Actually 6x17 is quite old. Here is the link to KNOWN panoramic cameras time line.

There are many other photographic sizes/types available. Using photo paper almost any size is possible. Just search on MEDIUM FORMAT and LARGE FORMAT, there is such a long list of cameras available in the market right now that its not possible to make one set.

Specifically for 120/220 film there is upto 6cm x 24cm available with Fotoman and others. There are also digital alternatives availanble but sine making such a large sensor is not cost effective and defect rate is very high, manufaturers use SCANNING backs, basically a scanner system with more controls is attached instead of a sensor, but it requires a great deal of effort and patience and not to mention these cost a fortune.

I am going to try and make my own based on Spherocam in few weeks time with some other projects.

If you go film way, cost isn`t too much and a good 6x17 can be had anywhere between US $1000-$2000, for digital alternative it will be around US $40,000.

I having D90 with 18-105 & 55-200 lens, i find difficult to change the lens when it requires, especially at out doors, fearing about dust entry, thinking to change my lens to single 18-200 VRII, is it worth to have? is any one using said lens.

Subbarao, 18-200 VR is a good allrounder lens, though some of the reviews say it is not sharp at certain ranges.
Go through all the reviews on the net & then decide.

Moreover with these ultra zooms if you shoot around F8/F9, you will not face a problem in image quality.
So go ahead if lens changing is a hassle for you!

Err. Pardon my ignorance but whole point of buying a costly DSLR instead of a good P&S with zoom is the ability to change lens isn't it like spending for DSLR and then spending more money to buy lens for using it like point and shoot ?

Why don't you simply buy another canon S2 with 12X zoom and 10 MP at less cost then 18 - 200 IS lens for your outdoor requirements ? Or even better a waterproof P&S model from either Canon or Olympus.

There is a lot to DSLR than just changing lenses, its about FLEXIBILITY and CONTROL than anything else.

At last, my 500D+18-55 arrived yesterday. It was a deal-of-the week from eBay,
Apparently its imported (smuggled?) from Hongkong and hence the low price of 36K.
Checked if it is refurbished - its brand new.

I might miss the canon-edge program. But I'm happy with the price.
The famous dialogue - I can use it to buy lens. But will I buy new lens now? Nope - not atleast now.

Since this has video capability as well, I thought of selling my sparingly used sony handycam - HC22E (European model).
It was a mistake I bought a handycam. My interest was always towards photography. I realized that after buying the handycam.

As geeks in DLSRs, you might have come across various online tutorials/links. I would appreciate if you could share few links.

The one big advantage of DSLRs over most P&S is the snesor size. The difference beteeen FF adn APS-C does not seem as obvious as that between the 1/2.5" sensor of a P&S and the APS-C sensor of a crop-DSLR.
