I am thinking about Nikon D3000, Canon 1000D, 450D . I dont have a clue about the Lenses. Are the stock lens which comes with the body is ok for my requirements ?

I am also open to buy a used camera,But if am buying a used one I will buy mid-end cam like Nikon D90. Where will I be able to find good used ones?

Please Advice
Hi Buvan,

I am also on the same boat. Currently using a 4 year old S5600 and doing homework for my first DSLR.

Though not an expert, from my recent research and hunts I would recommend D5000 which is a VFM product from Nikon. It shares many a parts and features of the D90 which is a majestic cam. With just addition of lenses and accessories, it can keep us running for long compared to D3000 or 1000D which we would outgrow fast. Price in Bangalore is around 34K when enquired.

Hi Twiny,

I am also a beginner and started using PS pocket edition and found it easy to use though not tried all features. Gimp is a freeware and is also similiar in terms of features with PS. I am switching to Gimp to keep away from any licensing issues.

I would recommend Google Picasa as an easy and "short-cut" tool for quick post processing and its again a freeware.

The D90 is pretty elusive around here. One dealer says he can get one for 39k grey market price. Another dealer had promised a D90 for 38k with bill & warranty but eventually did not get it, he said even Nikon India doesn't have any stock of D90. The other dealer says , there is no way anyone can sell the D90 with warranty at 38k ( ergo anyone selling at lower than official price is grey market ,so no warranty) , the white market price is definitely the INR 43500 on Nikon website.

My question is, is the official/MSRP price as on the company's website the only one that gives you company warranty ? Even malls such as Croma list the Nikon India website price , only differing for 1000D and D3000 depending on freebies offered.

If so, then it looks like waiting for D90 replacement is the best way to go, maybe with a D3000 or used Nikon to get started.

Today one of my known relative bought Nikon D3000 body + Nikkor 18-105VR Lens + Marumi Haze UV filter + 4GB sdcard + Battery Charger + Carry Case for RS 34000/-

Dealer was telling that the prices of the lens are firming up
Same kit with D90 was quoted at RS 51000/- He also mentioned that the D90 stocks are draining up.

Friends,

I had my lens 18-70mm of Sony Alpha 200 damaged. So like a good samaritan thought lets get it repaired with Sony Service center. Got a call from them after 5 days saying the lens cant be repaired and would be replaced & the charge for the same will be 14990. when i visited the center to collect the lens, i enquired if they provide any kind of warranty on this part as its same as getting a new accessory, the lady at the center plainly refused saying serviced products dont have such possibility.

I at that very moment refused to take the lens with me, as i believe if i buy the same product from a normal sony shop then i pay the same amount & also i would get warranty against the product.

I am looking for advice now as to which lens should i shift since i see the possibility buy a new one within 25k. I already have a 75-300mm lens.
Which place would be best to buy lens for my sony Alpha 200 in Delhi?

Hi Guys – Need your guidance on Canon lens upgrade. [/FONT]
I currently own a Canon 1000D with 18-55 kit lens. I am planning to upgrade my lens.
I will be using the lens for general indoor portrait and outdoor landscape photography and a bit of Macro work.

I have shortlisted following lenses

Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II
Canon EF-S 60mm 2.8 macro
Sigma 30mm 1.4
Canon EF 50mm compact macro

Your reviews/suggestions will certainly help me.

Today won bid on e-bay US for SMC Takumar 50mm F 1.4 of 1970s vintage. It would cost me upwards of 100 US$ a family member will hand-carry this for me so will save some 20$ on International shipping costs.

Planning to use with AF Confirm M42-EF-S converter ( yest to be purchased) Will be in my hands by end of the month.

The price of this lens has increased sharply in last 6 months or so , Last time when I looked at e-bay average auction was at 50$ but now hovers in range of 90 - 105 $.

All due to success of Pentax K-X IMHO.
