I've heard a strong rumour that TC-14E III has been launched. A search yielded nothing. My supplier says he is trying to get one for me. Let us see. Tomorrow is another day.
Why not the TC-17E II ???? Thinking to get one for my 70-200 f2.8 II .

Re: The DSLR Thread

Finally got my hands on Canon 550D after a long time of research and comparision of the products picked up in Europe one yesterday.

Picked it for 12000 czk crowns and converting it to indian currency 31000, and got a class 10 8gb card and a t-shirt no more freebies.

the moment i purchased it i had to travel to a different country onwork basis.

will post the pictures some time later.

Re: The DSLR Thread

I have following gear :-

1. A Canon 1000D
2. A Canon 550D
3. 18-55 EF-S IS Kit lens.
4. 50mm 1.8f prime.
5. Canon 70-200mm F4 L IS (). <---Sharpest lens I have ever used & my fav.
6. A Velbon 750R Tripod IIRC.
7. 2 reversing rings for 50mm and 18-55mm.
8. Couple of DIY stuff for off camera flash experiments.

Planning to get a Macro lens in near future, contemplating between 90mm Tamron Macro and Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro ( non L lens).

Does anyone have any suggestions on which lens I should give preference to, based on experience ?

But how good is it going to perform in wildlife situation. The only reason I did not buy this lens is the sluggish focus even on a D300++ bodies.

On the lighter side, with a TC I can only say "All the Best".

Yes its the slowest amongst the Nikon telephoto AF-S primes but not so slow so as to miss shots. I am comparing it to the 300 2.8 and the 500 4 that I have used. It takes TCs very well especially the the 1.4 and its sharp even wide open that many zooms are not including some 2.8s.

Guruji, On a D300 (300mm+TC14) should get you forward at 630mm.
Unless you scared the tigers to move back to reduce that extra 30mm!

Got the 300 f/4 yesterday. TC14 wasn't available and has been ordered. Shall get it by Tuesday. The damage was 58800/-. So this Sunday have only 450mm at my disposal.

TC-17 translates to 2 f-stops down meaning the F/4 becomes a f/8. That makes it too slow in low light conditions and as it is D300 is not known to perform well in low-light. By that I mean if I boos t the ISO, then the noise increases.

TC-14 gives me f/5.6 at 600mm on a DX camera and I think I can manage that.

In your case the 70~200 with a TC-17 shall become f/5.6. That's still manageable.

I did not find the focus slugginsh on my D300. It was silently spot on. This coming Sunday shall tell me how it behaves in the wild.

Agree. Have seen sample shots with aperture wide open and it is bloody sharp.

Re: The DSLR Thread

Hey guys,

I ordered a Nikon 70-300mm zoom lens from Flipkart. I received it yesterday and found that the lens does not have aperture indexing ring. Since I use a Nikon FE which requires the lens to have aperture indexing, the lens is no use to me.

I am talking to Flipkart to see if they can give me a refund, but at the same time I also want to check if any of you would be interested in buying that lens from me.

The price I paid was Rs. 5999/- and that's the same price I am expecting. The lens is secure in its original packaging and comes with a 2-year Nikon warranty. Please drop me a PM if you are interested.

I think you need to be aware the nearly all lenses are now G type i.e. without aperture rings. The Nikon FE dates back to the late 70s to early 80s and will work best with lenses that have aperture rings for e.g. AI, AI-S and Auto focus D type (with no AF of course). Always check compatibility of the lenses before buying - you can get this info from Nikon's website.

BTW, it's great to hear that you still use film cameras, the FE was a classic in its time! :-) What film do you use?

Cheers!

Re: The DSLR Thread

Hi guys, my father has this old nikon camera the FM2 which he bought back in 1993. its got a 28-105mm Vivitar lens. Still in working condition, and i was surprised to find out it works without batteries lol. Can anyone shed some light into this model? is it a mass produced model or Is this an expensive model? is it an antique? what about the picture quality of this model?

And what about this lens brant named Vivitar? is it supposed to be a high quality lens?

Any info will be of great help

Guru Ji TC-17 is not 2 stops but 1 1/2 only which will be close to F/6 and not F/8.

Nikon India Private Limited

I suggested the 1.7x as I find it better in terms of approch when compared to 1.4x and more aperture and sharper than 2.0x converter. Anyways great shooting !!!! at 300 x 1.5 x 1.4 = 630 mm !!!!

Wow! Looks like people are talking about SLRs too, though strictly speaking this would be off topic on this particular thread.

The FM2 is a classic Nikon camera - reminds of my school days when I lusted after these cameras. Reading about them brings a big smile to my face plus a lot of nostalgia. My Dad sold off his Canon AE-1 which had me hooked onto SLRs forever.

Check these links - Nikon FM2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography.../fm2/index.htm

Vivitar is/was a well known brand of 3rd party lens manufacturers active right thru the 90s. But not sure if they do manufacture lenses any more. Read more here:

Vivitar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hope this helps.

Re: The DSLR Thread

@amrisharm: you don't talk about legendary products in such a casual manner. FM2, the legendary film camera, most would, at that time, happily traded their left arm for this beauty.

Alas, film rolls are scarce and slowly fading away. keep this model with you dear, and you shall not regret. Vivitar lenses were quite good once upon a time, but now I don't think they are into lenses.
