Guys... Has anyone got any suggestion on ring flash systems? Canons ring system us exhorbitantly expensive :-(

There are cheaper solutions from Bower and Zeikos, but I am not sure how good their TTL system is.

I am ready to stretch upto 20k provided the quality is good.

To be very honest, except for some test shots haven't shot with the D800 at all. Even when I went to Kolkata this month I carried the D300 with me. To top it, the sanctuaries are closed for the monsoons and the SC has put a spanner in the wheels. September 27th is a date that all are waiting with a bated breath.

Come October and I might be able to give you my assessment of the 800. Till then...

p.s: Indeed non-big cats are not worth shooting..!

Right now amazon is having the following offer

1. Canon DSLR T3i /600D
2. Kit lens - EF-S 18-55mm II
3. Telephoto - EF-S 55-250mm II

for $730. This works out to ~38700. Opinions... is this good deal?

Yes, I understand the implications

1. You have to ship it to an US address and then some one has to pick it up for you.
2. It will not have international warranty.

Anything else. But I could not find out how long will this offer last.

Actually the Canon lenses do have international warranty. It is only the body which comes with US warranty.

If you're going to be using this in India for most of the first 2 years, why would you want to risk the enormous hassles with shipping your camera in case of trouble and risking further damage in transit besides having the camera unavailable for a much longer time? You could perhaps buy international warranty (do check that option with them), but it would add a minimum of 5000/- more.

I'm sure you would've also considered a product that well parallels the T3i while exceeding it in certain departments (of course, it also falls short of the T3i in certain other ways) - Nikon's D5100. Why not that?

The Nikon D5100 is also on the verge of replacement and is most likely going to be substituted with a D5200 very soon (possibly before Diwali). This is similar to the D3200 upgrade of the D3100. However, in this case both models will not coexist and only the D5200 would remain. The intermediate model between the D3100 and the D5200 will be the D3200.
In many countries, the supply of D5100 has already been discontinued. If you are still keen on the D5100, you may be able to get good deals on the D5100, while stocks last, but I would recommend going for the D5200 instead, which will be higher speced and will have better performance.

the Nikon D5200 would probably have a nice bump in MP and fps ratings and will cost a cool north of 45k.

if your budget is lower,get the D5100 and invest in better lenses.

D300s build and controls, 8 FPS, base ISO of 6400 or more - close to D600 or D800 ISO capabilities, dynamic range close to that of D600, big buffer, 18-24 MPs, AF system from the D800/D4, 1/8000s shutter max speed, priced 1L or less - now that is something I crave for, and am waiting for. The mythical D400!

Spring of 2013 launch, as per the rumors? Hope so...by that time my D90 would have completed 3 years.

One can but hope. If not the D400, perhaps the D7100/7200 or whatever they launch.

I don't think that Nikon won't keep such a large price segment - b/w the D7000 and D600 - unoccupied for long. Asking for trouble and for competition to outflank.
