Re: Google Maps making MapMyIndia (and similar products) obsolete?

Resurfacing an old thread because this news came up in my feed (which is, ironically, powered by Google):

https://gadgets.ndtv.com/science/new...rvices-2369270

Quote:
[ISRO and MMI] announced an initiative to partner together to offer India's best, and fully indigenous, mapping portal, and geospatial services.

[...]

...a path-breaking milestone in India's journey towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat, wherein Indian users would not be dependent on foreign organisations for maps, navigation, and geospatial services, and leverage made-in-India solutions instead.

Resurfacing this once again, because MMI's latest attempt was covered in The Ken today:

https://the-ken.com/incitingincident...eds-a-villain/

MMI has launched (rebranded?) a consumer mapping/nagivation product calls Mappls. The founder posted on Twitter about the launch and this thread ensued:

Anyway I have serious doubts whether it can be a challenger to Google Maps; I have installed it and the first impression isn't very great. I'll take it out for a spin tomorrow/over the weekend.

Edit: It seems to be a rebranded version of the Move app mentioned in the previous page.

More than their product, their map content was the key differentiator. Earlier used to buy they maps for Garmin. Later they stopped support. And by then world had moved to Google. Also Garmin got its own maps and which by way even today are very well updated.
