Diwakarmuthu, in Google Play Store, search using the keyword "Sygic".

Install the app "GPS Navigation & Maps Sygic"

The App download is 43 MB. You can download the India maps from within the Sygic App. Its about 940 MB.

If you do not have a license, you can use the premium features for about 2 weeks before the trial expires.

@ivento, Since you are using the paid version, I've a query on the HUD feature. Do you need to buy any particular phone or other device to achieve this?

Also how reliable is the gps only navigation of Sygic, I've not been able to test this on the the free version.

Cheers

Re: Sygic India GPS Navigation

Updated to the latest version.

Map size is around 550 MB (earlier was 990 MB). There are changes to the POI icons on the map. I cannot see any other difference. But I have not used this app much in recent times, so cannot do a fair comparison.

Kutoos, GPS Navigation & Maps Sygic application is compatible with all Android smartphones/tablets with built in GPS module and Android OS 4.0.4 or higher. Head-Up Display is an add-on to Sygic.

150 megabytes of free space in your internal memory is required in order to install the application and resource files. Maps takes another 1 GB.

Sygic uses TomTom maps. Personally, I am happy with Sygic & have not faced any reliability issues so far. There is a general opinion that MMI has a better coverage in India. But you need to pay for their updates every time. (They charge 500/- for their latest update) where as once purchased, Sygic updates are free for "lifetime".

This is just too confusing to even think about! I'll just wait... and see what happens.

I don't use it very often, despite having bought myself a world licence

As I mentioned above, Sygic requires Android OS 4.0.4 or higher, 150 MB for the App another 1 GB for Maps. Make sure you are met with there requirements first. Needless to say, an internet connection is a must.

You can either opt for an upgrade or a clean install. I suggest you to uninstall the previous version and opt for a clean install.

Once the installation is complete, install the maps & activate the app with the product key. That's it. You are ready to go!

Re: Sygic India GPS Navigation

I have been using Sygic (earlier MapMyIndia) for 4 years now - earlier on iPhone and now on Android. Its undoubtedly a fantastic app. Saved me quite a few times, specially in areas where 3G signal dropped and Google maps refused to work. I have the 'World lifetime licence' so its pretty useful here in Europe as well (roaming data charges in europe are pretty high - Sygic with its POI based navigation has helped me a lot - specially with taxi drivers looking to fleece international tourists in Prague and Rome)
Some of the better features (apart from the offline maps of course) :

1. the 'Travel book' All your maps are stored, along with some pretty good statistics!

2. HUD - Heads Up Display : This gives a reflection of the map on the windscreen. It comes with an additional cost and works only at night

3. The GPS locks on really quickly

The app has come a long way since the mapmyindia app days. You dont really need to buy a separate GPS unit. The app itself is good enough. Also, they have regular promo schemes by which you can buy the maps at pretty decent rates ( I think I paid ~600 for the world lifetime licence)

Re: Sygic India GPS Navigation

Sygic has made dashcam and HeadsUp Display features free for all Sygic customers.

I saw this in my junk email now.

No problem: you just made an up-to-date contribution! Tell us more.

I'm afraid that, even though I have owned a whole-world licence for some time, I don't even have it installed these days.

I wonder... Is Sygic really worth it, compared to Google Maps? And if so, why?
