Hello Bhpains

I have short-listed below things till now , tell is it worth taking for because i will be playing some NFS games , hd movies

Intel DZ68DB Motherboard
Intel 3.3 GHz LGA 1155 Core i5-2500K Processor

Now i need help in graphics card , which one should i go for . Let me know guys , i have assemble the PC asap . Also the SMPS which should be good and shoukd have VFM price as well

Asrock was supposed to be the low end brand of asus when it launched. However, over years they've started building higher end stuff but still at good vfm prices.

I love their absolute VFM factor. But, as you said their boards are not available in India. How is the after market service? Who handles it for them? I am looking at this board v/s this from Gigabyte v/s this from Asus.

I was looking at Asrock boards on Newegg and I was quite impressed with their specs. Fellow team-bhpian and geek Amey recommended these boards. They look absolute VFM to me. Any reviews or experiences around those?

I am also going in for a Z77 chipset to replace my June 2009 i7-920. I am buying ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE+CORE I7-3770K. Only thing is that core i7-3770k is not yet available in India and I have been waiting for now 2 weeks. However, expect this to be installed on Saturday (18.5.2012).

I found this ASUS Deluxe to be the best option. If WIFI and some minor frills is not required, then Sabertooth Z77 is a very good MB.

I read some people still thinking about Z68 chipsets. Even if they are using SB processors, if it is a LGA1155 socket, they should be going for 7 series chipsets.

I was tempted with 3930-K but that was costing 66-67K with CPU+asus del. motherboard+corsair 80 cooling. core i7-3770k + board is costing me 42K. Plus no additional cooling required since I already have an aftermarket X58 cooler that is compatible with LGA1155.

Cabinet Fans: The Third Generation!

I just got a pair of Noctua NF-S12B FLX to replace the top and rear fans in my Antec P183 cabinet. I'd even looked for Noctua case fans in Singapore, without finding them, and had bought my massive Noctua CPU cooler from Amazon USA.

As they are both voltage controlled, I made up a Y-connector from a couple of 3-pin fan extension cables I had in my odds box. I copied the wiring from Noctua's own adapter supplied with my twin-140mm-fan cooler, connecting the pulse line from one fan only. I had thought that combining pulses from two fans would not make much sense.

They really are quiet! The BIOS was running them at around 1300RPM, and they were not making much noise at all. Now I have set up Ubuntu fancontrol and they are running at only 500rpm and everything is under 40C. A video conversion, with 4 cores at 100% saw the speeds exceed 1000 and the temperatures rise quite a lot, but all well within limits.

Back at idling speed... my god, this keyboard is loud!

Another step towards my obsession of silent computing. Next week I knock down the house and rebuild it as a huge passive heatsink

All assembled and running for the past 2 hours. It took me the best part of 8-9 hours to complete this work including cleaning out the chassis (dust) and putting back all the older components into their packages for safe keeping till they are redeployed.
The PC is now screaming FAST! At stock speed, no OC, MS Word 2010 and Outlook 2010 in ~2 secs Adobe PS 5.5 64 bit in ~3-4 seconds.

Power draw is 25w more than the previous configuration

Yup they are great, Noctua is available locally btw. I got a D14 recently with a 140mm fan

When I searched 18 months ago, I could only find them on one Indian site. I won't name it here as it would be unfair without personal experience, but it doesn't have a great reputation on hifivision!

For that price IMHO watercooling is better if your chassis/case can accomodate rads.

Water cooling won't suit me. Due to low utilisation it is not the CPU that causes most of the heat in my system: It seems to be the North bridge and other components on the motherboard, as well as HDD, so I need to keep air moving through the case.
Added to which, even water cooling is, in the end, going to depend on the quietness of the radiator fans, so I would probably have just gone through changing them around a few times.

Finally after waiting and waiting for nearly for a month for India availability of i7-3770K, I got a new system on Friday. The parts purchased and installed were:

1. Core i7-3930K (36K)
2. ASUS P9X79 DELUXE (25K)
3. 16 GB (4 sticks) of 1600 Mhz G-Skill (6K)
4. Corsair Hydro Series h80 cooler (6K)
5. CM690 USB3 advanced cabinet (5.5K)

I consider it total overkill and unneccesary additional spend of 16-18K over a core i7-3770K and asus deluxe build, but I can live with it. The bottleneck now is a SSD (presently using WD 2TB Caviar Black as a boot disk) which will be solved in July (Intel SSD330/520 of 128GB). Longer term maybe an increase in PSU from 700W to 800-900W.

Not from flipkart except for the RAM and cabinet. I could not get the i7-3770k as there was no one coming from the UK M9my regular source). i7-3770K is expected to be available at least in Delhi by 3 June 2012. I had been after my vendor for i7-3770K since the first week of May, but gave up after 3 weeks. My GPU is MSI GTX560. Comparing i7-3770K with i7-3930K, I gave up on Intel HD4000 and got higher power consumption and cost for 2 additional cores and perhaps 800-900 million more transistors. However, I am cool with it. No OC for now on 3930K beyond 4-4.2 Ghz (stock 3.2 with turbo boost to 3.8Ghz). CPU temps on Corsair H80 in Delhi summer right now (45C max) remain at 35-50C for the most part. Will get the SSD (Intel SSD330 is at 100 pounds in UK and has dropped from 130-140 pounds in March/April). Expect it at 80-90 pounds in July-August 2012. Crucial m4 128 is at 80-85 pounds.

The biggest thing in new MBs is the UEFI BIOS and GPT. GPT is good but not required for low capacity boot disks. Had to find a workaround to get windows 7 install on a MBR. I find MBR better and much easier to work around with acronis. Maybe when I get a SSD, I can go with GPT and backup the entire disk (not practical for 2TB boot disk with multiple system and data partitions).

Have you also looked at ASUS P8Z77 deluxe?? (Rs. 20-21K) or Sabertooth Z77 (18K).

Vasudeva, be aware that the Corsair coolers have an issue in the water pump caused by an out of spec ceramic bearing on the impeller shaft. The pump may begin to give off a buzzing or chirping sound like an hdd performing a read or write operation. It does not affect the cooling.

This issue is widely discussed on the Corsair and other forums. My unit has this problem. I have raised an RMA last night with Corsair and will probably contact flipkart for a replacement under the 30 day warranty. Good luck with the new PC build.

Thanks. I have also read some people complaining about Corsair where perhaps the coolant or whatever goes bust after a few months and as a result people seeing sudden failure to boot. I had a CM Hyper N620 for my old build (i7-920) which clearly was not up to it with 3930K (temps crossing 70C). Could be dirt in the fan. I have not used water cooling and so have the old cooler as a backup. My vendor could not get Noctua NH-D14 and Corsair hydro h80 was my second choice. If Corsair goes bust or temporarily out of the system, I will probably go for CM Hyper 212 Evo or Noctua. Flipkart has this Noctua but I presume it needs special brackets for LGA2011 and I was not sure whether flipkart had it. Definitely need a backup for a 36K CPU and I do have the Hyper N620.

On a side note, although LGA2011 can take 8 RAMs in quad channel, even dual channel (4 sticks) can keep up with it. See this:

Oh! What a dreadful pun, and perhaps I should have said four Noctua fans here --- two on the NH-C14, and two case fans.
