I have also hooked up my Philips to a 2.1 Speaker system & extremely happy about it. If you have decided on a 100Hz set, there is actually no competition. There are only 3 brands which are available though even samsung & lg have them on their catalogues, you will never get to see them. Check out the panasonic also while you are at it.

Too late.... Bought the Philips!!! the 29PT8836/94 TV large 25" - 29" TV (conventional) TV Philips ... Just paid for it... Decided the premium for Sony is just not worth it!

MRP Quoted was 24,990/- .... Got it for 21k.. less 5,700 for my old TV = a net price of 15,300/- Inclusive of all taxes and levies!!!! Bought it from the Philips Arena here.

YIPPIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Will give all of you my views after soaking it in for a week or so!

Thanks one and all!!

***imitating Rakee Sawanth here** --- JEEJUSSS !!
I truly am SOOOOPID!

Very sorry... OF course I know Home Theatre ... But somehow I kept thinking of HIGH TENSION -- which incidentally is the situation @ work!!..(Year end in Fin Services)

I got me a 7 year Old Pioneer DVD player - I think its K533 or the next one .. dont remember but its the first of their ultra slim line players.. This is mated to an old school YAMAHA stereo amp .. which is mated to a DIY pair of speakers (more about that in teh sam's speaker sale thread). Zats IT!!

I now find I have to upgrade everything!1... need a AV receiver... need a better DVD player....and with this a sub for sure!! GAWD! ... did I just statrt something????

Dont go overboard here. Just get a decent Home theatre speaker system (Which will automatically have a sub) & a good A/V Receiver, thats all.

P.S. And a good DVD player with Divx capability.
cheers

@kb100 - recently i picked up a 29 Onida "300 Oxygen Series"....though not a big fan of Onida... i dint do any research before i picked this tv....went to couple of outlets and found that almost all the tvs performed the same in my budget -14-15k...Onida won over because they were offering 3 yrs warranty... its almost 2 weeks now and am pretty happy with it...after sales is also preety good.....but sound sucks....anyway i hav connected my music sytem to the tv and it sounds good....i dont think it makes sense to go for a tv which has sub woofer...instead invest on small hometheaters which you get for reasonable price...am loving to watch DVD's now.........

EGGGGJAKTLY....

MY speakers I am DIY'g with the ones Sam is sending me (just the centre and the rears)

Therefore I STILL need a sub

And I need that receiver to drive all that with..At least 75 watts RMS per channel.

And ofcourse a player - The lens of my player is on its last legs - or so the service centre tells me!

Suggestion time again ppl !!..

http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...specifications
Supported Display Resolution
Video formats : 480p, 60Hz, 720p, 50, 60Hz, 1080i, 60Hz, 1080p, 60Hz
the technical specifications in philips website show the supported resolutions max as 60Hz. it was supposed to 100 hz. isn't it so. does anyone know why is it so?

I think it is the resolution. 100Hz is the refresh rate. I am not too sure. will get back after some googling.
cheers
