Rubbish, that's just a myth. I'm doing 4.5 years on my Sony LCD.

Check witj local dealers as they are selling iat around 37-38k as per some people.
As for the Plasma its extremely good as i am using one

I bought mine from croma 4 months for that price and seems its still the same there,

Other smaller dealer I have used before called and offered me 40500/- but I had already made the x20 purchase elsewhere.

Could the price difference relate to Bangalore billing at 12.5% + 0.5% cess. Is it uniform across the other states?

In any cases BLR prices reflect higher compared to Delhi, Chennai, Hyd.

One of my neighbours yesterday picked up two TV's from Samsung dealer in Thane. An 42 in Plasma and a 32 in LCD TV. The total deal was worth 62K in exchange for two CTV's. Both the TV's are full HD but watching the usual STB programs was not that exciting esp on the Plasma.

what plasma model is it? You need to tune the settings based on the environment you are in. Plasmas are never amazing out of the box, you need to tune your tv and room lighting to get the best picture Try the plasma settings I have posted earlier if you are the 5 series and adjust only contrast/brightness based on your room lighting. Also make sure its not a used piece, that could be another reason for bad pic quality. GOod Luck

That is surprising. I got a 42 " HD Ready panasonic plasma recently and the picture quality is very good with STB. Even women in the family are happy now, though they initially wanted me save money and get a small LCD.

The only issue is that the deficiencies of few regional channels are highlighted compared to CRT. The picture quality is very good with HBO, Star Movies, CNBC etc.

As I dont have the product, I am really unsure which model has my neighbour bought. Anyways thanks for the suggestions, will pass it on to the owner.

Can someone suggest a suitable LCD 32" model for me. My requirements are mainly for Xbox360 usage for both gaming and streaming media from a Win Media Center PC (via the Xbox so need for DLNA support).
I don't intend to use it with normal TV sources (cable or STB). Also after a year I intend to upgrade it to a 40" LED after which this 32" will be used as a monitor for my Desktop PC.
Keeping the above needs of mine can someone suggest the best LCD model within a reasonable budget (which I haven't determined yet)

I am interested in a 40 inch LCD/LED TV and have narrowed down the options to Sony and Samsung.

Sony model is 40EX700/710 and Samsung is 5 series C5000. Viewed the two side by side at Croma and Sony was the clear winner w.r.t., picture quality especially contrast.

Samsung is priced at 70000 and Sony at 80000 which includes internet connectivity which I am not a fan of. The next lower model without internet is EX600 but it lacks 100Hz motionflow tech and priced near about same as Samsung.

Please suggest to me what to buy and whether LED is worth the price difference over LCD. Feel free to suggest other good TV models other than these two also.

I think you can try the Toshiba or Sansui. Since you mentioned to keep it for an year, I think this should be sufficient. You can get a 40" toshiba for the price of 32" samsung.

The myth was true in my case. Our Sony LCD went kaput exactly after 1.5 years and the reason was main panel failure. The real root cause was IC failure and side effect was the main panel failure. The total cost of the repair was estimated to 12.5K. I had to fight it out with Sony and made them to pay for the main panel failure which should not have conked off when the IC failed. I have already shared my experience in this same thread earlier.

I could not still get a convincing reply from Sony on why IC failed. Multiple theories are stated for the IC failure, like over heating or power surge. I do have a voltage stabilizer and sony is not ready to buy in that it should not have happened due to power surge.

However I agreed to pay the IC replacement charge of Rs1800 and rest were taken care by Sony.

Had a strange but frustrating issue yesterday with my Panasonic LCD power cable. The cable 2 pin plug got melted due to sparking inside the socket. Have no clue as to why this happened. The technician was called and was of the opinion that the plug was loosely fitting in the socket. Changed the cable (the cable although claimed by the tech as original did not look so) and costed me Rs 1200/-. 400 for cable, 800 for the repair charges.

What the tech advised was put the 2 pin plug in cross at the socket. Will this eliminate the issue faced earlier?

If its ill fitting take the cord and try various multiplugs in which it fits firmly.
