Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

Very soon we will have short term investment plans for funding your next phone.

I can just imagine the conversation with your investment advisor

This SIP for old age, retirement etc.
This one for children's further education.
This one for next phone.

On a serious note, the 11 pricing is looking good now. I think I'm finally have to gonna reconcile to buying previous gen phones when the prices are a bit more palatable. I don't think I can go back to a 5.4" (Mini) form factor anymore.

Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

Folks, any idea if an iPhone purchased in Dubai will work in India? One of my friend is coming next month and I’m planning on purchasing the iPhone 12 and the series 6 cellular. Will purchase it directly from the Apple store.

I’ve asked few of my friends and checked online, there are mixed responses. Few articles say that FaceTime might not work in India. Any information regarding the iPhone 12 and series 6 cellular watch is much appreciated. Thank you!

Ridiculous pricing in India. The government is indirectly loosing tax money because of their high taxes. Majority of my friends, including myself, get our Apple products from a foreign country.

Cheers!

Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

With such mouth watering prices, I would have got each one of them in every single color.
Then I saw they are made in China, so I am boycotting them.

Hi! They will work fine, but the iPhone would not have facetime since it is bought from there, there is no option for FaceTime on those phones as UAE has banned FaceTime. You do get iPhones and iPads with FaceTime but for that you would have to specially ask for those variants in shops, once out of the UAE FaceTime would work on them.

Also rather than the official store, head over to Bur Dubai and get from there, they're priced much lower and also you can get the VAT refund from the airport. If you need details of shops PM me.

Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

Prices Prices! Ridiculous!

As much as I Love the phone, I dont want to get into another EMI schedule and for a phone. Looks like I will stick with iPhone 7 (4 years running) until IOS upgrades are no longer made available and then shift camp!

Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

I wanted a 5G iPhone but with these over the top i.e. crazy prices as always, upgrading my IP7+ will have to wait. Hope they start assembling these models in India soon!

Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

What about the biggest scam of them all!
The iphone 12's is bigger and better in everyway or so they make you feel. The screen, the camera blah blah blah. But they have conviniently let the most important part out. THE BATTERY.
A iphone with a 85% battery health will last you only half a day before you charge it again. And that 85% come up pretty fast from a 100% in about a year. Why no innovation there? why no talk of it?

That would depend on your usage pattern. My iPhone went from 100 to 88 in about 2 years, after which I had the battery replaced at the Apple centre in May 2019. The new battery is now down to 93, 17 months later.

I had purchased my 6s from Dubai back in 2016 & till date its working fine. It didn't come with FaceTime. But recently when i updated to iOS 14, FaceTime miraculously appeared but I've never used it yet.

Post the latest OS update, iPhones bought anywhere in Dubai have got Facetime enabled through the software, so it will work fine. There is no need to ask for FaceTime specific variants. Someone I know did buy an iPhone in Dubai last December and it was specifically mentioned that FaceTime wont work but as I said, post the OS update, it works now.

Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

Came across this video from iGyaan, where Bharat (Editor @iGyaan) mentions that the reason for the exorbitant prices of iPhone 12 Pro series may be due to the use of LiDAR sensor in the back. The manufacturers have to obtain a license from GOI to use the radar tech in devices and that comes by paying heavy fee.
[Please jump to 07:50 in video for relevant topic]

IIRC, Pixel 4 of last year was not launched by Google in India due to this radar licensing and approvals.
He also mentions that this license may be the reason why we haven't yet seen Radar based tech in the mainstream cars in India.

Ooh the sarcasm, why you gotta hate marquees?

IMO it doesn't ever make sense to buy iphones in india, or any apple product.
Assuming you upgrade every year, you're probably sporting a 11pro. I don't think you should upgrade to 12. unless you like the smaller form factor of the 12 mini. It's pretty competitive in it's own right.

The questions a 11 pro user should ask before upgrading are

Are you in need of the extra power?
-It makes sense for a user upgrading from maybe a X or XR but not the 11pro. It's not worth the upgrade. The price to performance ....not enough value. Hardly noticeable unless you.... Hey, you know the drill, you upgraded every year.

Features like deep fusion and all are cool but some of them are apparently coming soon

Don't upgrade.

I see the only real reason to upgrade would be that. The only reason we should plonk a lakh on an iPhone is if we keep it for a long long time.

Like a lot of iPhone users do. We have enough iOS users on the iPhone thread complaining about how the new iPhones are not worth it and about how they don't need a UHD OLED screen and their old 6s is doing more than well enough.

To people like them I say, you didn't need an iPhone in the first place then.

2 to 3 years is a reasonably good duration to keep an iPhone considering the newer models nowadays are all Evolutionary and not revolutionary!

I am sporting the 11 Pro, yes. I do love the smaller form factor of the Mini, but it's 85k for the 256 GB version, which is insane. And the 256 GB 12 Pro is about 1.3 lakhs, which is hilariously insane.

What also gets my goat is the fact that Apple reserved the best camera system for the larger Pro Max. Why not offer it on the smaller chassis? I know, it's likely the Pro doesn't have as much free space on the inside, but this is Apple. We know they did it for the moniesssss. Such is the capitalist way of life.

haha, indeed.

Apple's excuse for not including a charging brick and earphones in the box was SaViNg tHe eNvIrOnMeNt.... why not let it be USB C and help reduce e-waste further??

Remember how the European Union asked Apple to switch to USB-C and then Apple bullied them back and said we'd make more waste that way??

I think it's going to be a while before we see stuff that doesn't shout overpriced coming from Apple. EDIT: I MEAN NEVER.But that's the glamour in Apple's products. They're competent devices.... often the fastest and most powerful phones for an year or two from release. But what pulls more and more customers to Apple is it's pricetag....and not in the way you'd think I mean. How many people do you think would've bought an iPhone and flaunted it like they do now, if it didn't mean a status symbol.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, have a nice day.

Re: Apple iPhone 12 launched!

The prices are exorbitant, but people will still buy this. One advantage of the Apple products is that you get at least 5 years of useful device life. If you buy an older model for 40k, it means around 8k per year, which is what one would spend on a typical budget android device every year. I will wait for offers on the older iPhone models. Also, iPhones have good resale value.
