I don't recall the model number of that multifunctional device from HP but show one at E-Zone, (An white good chain from BigBazzar pramoter) on Ashoka Pillor Road, Bangalore. It's MRP was round 6 K but was available for 4.5 K. Check it out!

HP id definitely the best...only issue being the price of cartridges though...they're too expensive for a household...

Sorry don't mean to hijack this thread, but I am looking for a laser monochrome all-in-one around 8k . This is for my office. what about consumable costs for laser printers?

I have the HP inkjet 4355 at home. Print quality is good but Ink cost is horrendous. I now get the cartridges refilled. Scanner is very difficult to use.

the laser all in one would be above 10k-11k mark. I have a HP 3030 which has a flat bed scanner. Yery good stuff got it for 18k with a 256 MB MP3 player free along it.

It is said that many companies sell printers below the cost price and make money off toner.
So whatever you buy is immaterial, before that ask the dealer about cost of toner(b&W or color as need be) and how many pages will a cartidge print.

I get my toner filled in Rs 500 and the roller(Rs900each) which works 2 refills and each refill gives me more than 1200-1500 pages..

I bought a Canon PIXMA MP600 A-I-O (all-in-one) printer about 2 months back. I have found it to be pretty good at all that it has to offer viz printing, photo printing, scanning and copying. I did extensive research before I decided on this model too. The total cost inclusive of all taxes and shipping came to $ 143. I would certainly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a decent A-I-O. (it doesnt offer fax though !)

I used HP and Epson, I liked both. What I realized is laser printer is costly to buy and cheap to maintain and Inkjet is cheap to buy and costly to maintain with respect to cartridge/refill cost. refill works max. 2 times with any cartridge. beyond that printer will end up with problems.

My 6 years old epson color inkjet printer now started shoiwng its age, I am looking for all in printer this time. I found 4355 is good one.

Printer

Am looking for a good printer for home usage.
Mostly to print photos.

Thinking of going in for the following model, My only concern is that I read comments that the ink gets used up very fast in this model.

Canon Pixma MP 145 Printer
Print, scan, Copy
Resolution 4800 dpi
600 dpi cis scanning
Dual color Gamut copy technology
usb 2.0 high speed

Appreciate suggetsions on any other good printer model upto 5k, Or reviews for the above listed Canon model.

I bought the Samsung SCX 4200 Laser MFP for 9k. Brilliant print quality - only drawback - no fax - but that is easily resolved if you have software! I use the 'Scan'n Email' route!!

It is a good printer, i bought it last year but two major drawbacks :

No priority tray, you've to feed pages one-by-one
A chip has to be changed everytime the toner is refilled.

The HP photosmart C4388 (printer scanner copier) is great for home use, and has built-in wireless (b/g) so you can connect to it and print wirelessly from any computer. It also accepts different types of memory cards so you can print photos without having to connect your camera to the PC first. Costs around 8.5K

adityamunshi,
Thanks for the input...
Feeding pages one by one should be ok for me cause I'm going to use it for home usage with min printing.

However the chip changing part is something new, How much does this chip cost ? and is it easily available off the shelf in all shops that sell printer cartridges ...

Would checkout the HP printer too
