Having used the E90 for a while now i feel im able to post a IMHO feature review
The Nokia E90 is a very balanced and reasonably priced solution as compared with other brands. The ''Communicator'', as Nokia brands these cell phones which are part of the S60 group of Nokia Phones, have been the cutting edge of technology in cell phones.
To begin with it comes in two colours, a dark Bronzinsh Brown, more like the colour in the Verna...(cant separate the car from me can you?!)
Lets see how this one fares and compares with my previous communicator, the 9500.
Firstly Im too used to some of the applications on the 9500 so I didnt like the change in this one, it did take some time to get used to. Lets see the new features on the E90.
The E90 has a twin display which works with the device open or closed ie all the applications will run on both, simultaneously if you want it. The top display screen can also be only a standby screen if you choose it to be that way. On the prior model, only a few applications like messaging, phone book organiser worked but on this one everything works on both screens. Also qpplications are displayed perfectly on both the external and internal screens, being scaled up or down to fill either of the displays. You can fold the device open and close, switching between the screens, as many times as you want. Clever na? But in the sun the display fades out, nevertheless the picture remains readable in most cases. Technically the top may be considered the main display, since you come to manage it when calling or reading messages. The font size tough in many work modes, is relatively small, what is more, when reading mail all columns are so crammed that it is impossible to read anything. And this is what makes you sway towards using the communicator mode even more often than the outer display.
Featuring a full QWERTY keyboard which is Backlit now. That backlight was missed in the prior model. Next to the inner display is the CIF-camera for video conferencing within 3G networks. So technically the E90 comes with two cameras and a flash.
The keys on the communicator (with flap open) are ergonomically as good as on the 9500 with the correct degree of travel whilst pushing. There are preset combinations of keys for handling texts (copy, select, paste and so on) and quick start up of certain applications. The hardware keys in the top row allow launching default applications. No four way arrow keys now. The E90 has a navigation button only. The reason, a new browser, which is easy enough to navigate without a joystick, and the aim at decreasing the number of broken joysticks. But previously, was it a major problem?
Supporting the open and close function of the flap are two, smart, chrome, side-mounted hinges are so designed that all wires are embedded into them therefore making the device more sturdy. Feels solid too.
The number pad on the outer display feels familiar, bulky and well-spaced buttons, While it is not as good as the one on the 9500 (that was bigger). There is no dedicated Edit key, that used to be a must on the previous S60-devices. However this is hardly a drawback as handling texts is much more simple in communicator mode anyway.
The power button doubles as the profiles switch while at the standby screen. The loudspeaker sits underneath a metal grill, which looks pretty stylish. All the primary sockets are situated on the bottom end with the mini usb slot and the charger socket and the audio jack. Right here you will also find the microSD memory expansion slot covered with a fold-out flap. The socket is convenient to handle and is hotswap-ready. The side-mounted buttons are quite stiff and prove to be a pain and a challenge to use.
The back cover plays host to the stereo-speakers which are, much like the main one, hidden under metal grills. These two are of superb quality, producing rich and loud sound. (Sam...Check this one out..

Nokia claims that in standby mode the E90 can work up to 260 hours, with a talk time of around 5 hours. I dont think so! Actually, the battery life proves to be shorter by a wide margin.
The E90 is filled with new goodies such as the Music player tough I believe that this will be one of least widely used departments of this device. Theres the FM radio which may find its usage with some owners tough.
Then theres text-to-speech technology, that enables you to listen to all your text messages and emails by pressing and holding the left soft-key. And it’s not only message that gets pronounced, there’s also sender’s name. In case there’s no such entry in the phone book, you will hear “Message from unrecognized number” phrase. Its quite funny to hear it pronounce Indian names.
A word or two about the 3.2 MPix Camera. The settings are so complicated that one needs to be a rocket scientist with the eyesight of an eagle to figure it out. Once you do, it works wonderfully.
Video is top quality and you can record about an hour of video but the battery gets drained. Though watching video will not be equally power-hungry.
Whats really new in the E90 is the Team Suite and Push to Talk. The spotlighted application, which is, as of today, unique to this model alone. Having launched it, you see the list of teams, which you compose yourself and fill with contacts from the standard phonebook. For every team you can create group messages, hold conference calls in one touch, initiate Push to Talk sessions.
Also featuring ZIP. Another well-known utility for handing archives, creating compressed files etc.
Barcode Reader. This application can be installed on just about any other S60based smartphone too; it allows reading codes from products packing. So now you can go checking if the price is right. Nevertheless this finds little application in real-life
GPS-navigation is also available on the E90 but is yet not offered by the cell companies in our country. Through GPRS maybe one can download the maps. I will have to check that out.
Hav'nt mentiones the usual suspects like blue tooth etc etc....
So finally ive presented what i could figure out of the E90, basically the features. Hope it was helpful!!
