XS Vs XSi

Amazon is selling XS and XSi both for $699 with same 18-55 IS kit lens.
I wonder who is going to buy XS when XSi is available for same price

In that budget, try out the Sigma 70-300 APO and the Nikon 55-200 VR. If you can push the budget a bit, the 70-300 VR might be the best bet (around 20k). However, neither of the Nikkor's has a Macro mode

The Tamron and Sigma Non-APO version are pretty low grade lenses, comparable to the 5k Nikon 70-300G. I'd avoid them if you plan to use this lens with any degree of frequency.

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D
Sigma | 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Autofocus Lens | 5A8306 is $220 is this a good bet and will it fit the NIKON D60

Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Zoom Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty $479

which is better?

It will fit but you will not get autofocus with your camera. You will have to focus manually

Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Zoom Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty $479

No contest - the Nikon lens is better but then that's no wonder - it's more than twice as expensive. I have explained the advatages in an earlier post. You'll have to stretch your budget for it. Within your budget you can get the Nikon 55-200mm AF-S DX VR. It'll be for about $250.

this is the new version with the built in focus motor. it will autofocus with the D40/D60 cameras. be careful not to get the older version, which wont

like Starscream mentioned, the Nikon 70-300 VR is a superior lens. in a lower budget, you would have to choose between the Sigma and the 55-200 VR.

I have no idea from where it captures so much light and the picture looks just white, even in Auto mode. I called Canon customer support and they said I should send the camera in for a look. Now, I have a feeling that this thing is somehow related to the iris getting stuck problem which is extremely common with this camera. Please help experts ! Rudra, tsk1979 ?
S2 (and many other canons of that era) had problems with its CCD. Your camera would now be out of warranty but believe me canon will replace the ccd for free. If you are lucky (read - CCD shortage) you might get a S5 as replacement (for free)..

my friend had got S3 as replacement for S2.
I was unlucky and got the ccd replaced for free. If its repaired do check after the repairs that all functions (including connecting the camera to PC and downloading the pics and working of IS and MF buttons near lens) are working as I have problems with these after the repairs.

ok guys. my boss thinks I know digital cameras. he just walked in and asked me to recomend a camera to outfit all his sales and service engineers so that they can bring back photos from the customers (with customer approval ofcourse). He is looking at buying 20 cameras!

Budget per camea: 10K
Size/Weight: 200-300 gms (not ultra compact)
Flash guide: 5m+ (most locations are indoors and poorly lit)
Lens: 28mm-100mm prefered but I dont think this is possible so he'll settle for 35-105mm.
Features: IS, Av, Tv
Make: Canon or Nikon preferred.

What are the prices for the Canon 650IS/720IS/570IS or Nikon 5100?

Any other options? Oly?

Canon 50D Leaked

The Canon china site link is now disabled, but different sites were able to get a screenshot!

apparently there is anti shake too, but this could be google translation error, as pointed out on various forums. What the chinese text says is that stabilized kit lens is default.

The only differences seem to be 15 million pixels vs 10 million pixels and a 920k pixel screen. The latter seems to be the only redeeming feature.

Navinji, Panasonic has a 30-150mm lens in it's LZ-10. I think this would be a good buy although you need to confirm the prices in India. Since most locations will be indoors the wide angle will be much more useful.

It also has manual controls as well as a larger 1/2.33" sensor with IS. It runs on AA batteries so that's cheaper to replace.

In the US it costs $180. I think only panny comes with such wide angles even in their lower segment.

I know it is on my list along with the 650IS which I believe is a Canon sleeper and the 570IS/590IS. However I noticed that Nikon's flash guide numbers are almost double that of Canon so I included the Nikon 5100 (I know it is a different class of camera when compared to the 720/570/650 from Canon).

Panny's distribution/service network in India is dismal. I dont see the LZ10 here.

Most of the photography will be indoors under dusty dirty conditions (read as steel plants, cement factories, coal and mineral benefication plants, etc...).

bulk is not so much of a concern anything the size of a Canon G2-G7-G9 is fine. price however is a concern. The 5100 is not under 10K.
