Mobike008, thanks for the quick reply. Did you know that Canon had recalled some models with CCD related issues & carried out free repairs?
For this job, though, they wanted 7K so I tried my luck with a popular non-authorised repair shop. They have billed me 2K.

I knew about it after i paid 3.5K for repair of my CCD:Frustrati
Cannon Power Shot Series is also good. it pre-seting are easy to use. it allows you to contro iso, shutter speed, Aparture ration, Wide angle shot..
i own a powershot 540. can be used for underwater photography too

Hi I want to buy a digicam, waiting for thanksgiving sale to begin in US.
My budget is upto or slightly over $300. Max $325.
Please suggest a decent digicam which offers more than just point and shoot.
Following features are desirable:
1. At least 10x optical zoom with image stabilization.
2. Decent flash
3. Full manual mode if possible
4. Macro and supermacro
5. Li-ion battery.
Canon S5 IS fits the req perfectly, but has 2 drawbacks
1. AA NiMh batteries which drain faster than Li-ion
2. Cost :)
Any other suggestions??

Didnt quite got you here? I use 2300 mAh batteries in my S3 IS and they last me for close to 450 shots some with and without flash.
Besides AA batteries are always better than proprietry batteries for the simple fact that they are cheaper and in emergencies you can buy them right off the shelf.

Go for S3 IS, its around 263$ all inclusive and as far as image quality is concerned, its a better bet than S5 IS. 8 megapixels is too much for that sized sensor. You can check out the quality of the images on my flickr page, the link of which is my signature.

The cons are not that bad.
You can get good quality NiMH which wont give up on your quickly. But a charger+battery combo pack (15-25$). It comes with a car charger too.
That camera is a good value for money.
Other cams you can look at are the Panasonic ones, but sadly the image quality is pretty bad even at ISO 100. Its high time they got their noise reduction right in compact cams.
Then there is Fuji, they have the best sensors, but I wonder if they sell a cam below 300$ with Image stabilization.
What about the Canon SD 850?? I used the SD800 as my brother has it & found it to be small, light, has a good range of manual controls (of which I for the life of me can't understand much!!) and a good screen. Which for me are the main determinants. The image quality from his camera in varied conditions was very good too although he does play around with the settings so that might be a reason for it.
Thing is I'm getting a good deal on the 850, it's costing around $250 if I get it from the US & that for me is a bargain!
Do you guys think it's recommended as a good P&S which I can use for my travelling?

Has anyone used an infrared filter on their camcorder or digital cam? I've been looking for one,and it seems like there's a specific size the filter must be,in order to work properly.
Any inputs on this?
You want to shoot IR? For your camcorder you will be able to do so only if you have nightshot.
For digicam your camera should be able to take 30 sec exposures or more.
Hey folks! Me dummy dummy when it comes to cameras and am looking to buy a new digital camera. The most important criteria is ease of use and good picture quality.
A recent visit to one of the digital shops in Noida had me drooling over the Cybershot T70 but the price was quite oomph (20k).
Please suggest a good buy below 15k.
How do the Cannon/Coolpix (Nikkon)/Sony Cybershot compare?
Also by what factor would it be cheaper to buy a camera from US as compared to India?
