I dont think so. A 4-yr old camera does not have a warranty and you need to pay up for all part replacements and repair

I am sorry to say that but it is true that since it is recall then no warranty required in this case and up to 5 years old cameras are under consideration by the company.

Mobike, call this number - 09382570092. Forgot the name. This person along with 2 other Southern Regional Canon officials called me on a conference call yesterday when I complained that no dealers were willing to show me a demo of the S5IS. Iam considering purchase of this model shortly.

Canon has become very customer friendly of late. They gave me the dealership owner's cell number and asked to walk in for the demo. Never expected a company like Canon to respond so soon.

Yes they are customer friendly. But I really don't know why you said "off late".

Couple of years back, one of my equipment developed a snag. Gave it to 'Deendayal' on cmh road for repair. They are canon authorized repair shop. After 2 weeks he said that parts are ordered and they are on their way from singapore. After waiting for another 2 weeks, i got the same reply.
Got fedup, and tried calling canon customer service with really no hope. They gave a local cell no. The local fellow after collecting all the detail, told will call after some time. After about 2 hours(i guess) he indeed called me. And told me that deendayal never placed any such orders and apologized to me. He also told me, will look into this issue further.

Shortly deendayal called me... and he never had my cell no!!! In another couple of weeks my equipment was up and running perfectly.

Now that i heard canon has opened thier own service center in bangalore, thats a very very good news.

Welcome to canon mate... finally you are able to differentiate a pro equipment from a toy

Seriously, what is the plan?

I was hoping the D80 & D200 would become cheaper with the introduction of D300. I have been putting off my temptation to buy the D80 for quite some time now. I was inclined towards this model since I already own an F80 along with Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D and 50mm f/1.8 lenses. So I am still using film.

Riju, if you do buy the D80, would really like your opinion on that once you put it through its paces.

It is now available from jjmehta as "Nikon D80 with 18-135mm Lens and 1GB Card : 57990 - 6 Month EMI: 9665" with 1 year Nikon warranty. The EMI option looks tempting. They were selling the body alone without warranty for Rs. 36995. With warranty, the combination is now dearer by 8k. Is it worth going for this with B&W?

Well I wouldnt call the D50 a toy as such Guru. Was a good camera in its own league.

The D80 has 2 choices, 18-55mm and the 18-135mm . Already have a 18-135mm with me, so will look at buying a wide angle sooner or later. We always have the VFM 50mm lens too .

mobike we will have that discussion over PM.

Biju the D300's release is still due and I dont think there would be much of a price cut. Anyways lets hope for the best and good luck with your hunt.

Jayesh sells the D80 at 34k(body only) and the D200(body) at 52k.

I sure will post up my experience with whatever I pick up.

While you guys are plonking your pension funds into Canikon body, I am enjoying bliss with inexpensive Olympus.

See this link: :: Camshot ::

Gotta admit, I was shocked to see the prices above (grey I think). But to see Canon 400D costing same as the much superior Olympus E-510 is really funny.

Its all relative.
for a wide angle shooter, the oly is a bad bet.
Even the 1.6x crop shooter is limited, but 2x is real bad.
For example I will be moving to 10-22 lens soon(hope so!).
So to get 16mm FOV, I would require an 8mm lens in Oly.
10-22 costs 350-400$ in canon, I really wonder whats the price in oly for a good 8mm+ lens?
