If you are on a budget FZ8. The S5 IS does have some more bells and whistles though. I would have got the S5. You can see the side by side comparison of both the cams hereDigital Cameras Side-by-Side, 2 cameras: Digital Photography Review

| ![]() I myself did this comparison on dp review, and going by it I dont find much difference. Both have the same size sensor. Both are pretty useless at higher ISO ( But FZ8 has an option for shooting RAW). Leaving the brand name aside that comparison does not give me much technical points to consider S5 over FZ8 ( Maybe I am missing something and would ask for the experts to please point that out to me). The only big plus I could find for S5 is that it has hot shoe but FZ8 is lighter, cheaper and comes with Li-ion batteries. |

| ![]() Some of the things where the S5 IS scores more ..it has a faster highest shutter speed of 1/3200 sec ,face detection(auto focus), Aperture rangeF2.7 - F3.5/F8, the lcd is flip out. In the real world not sure how much these matter..would like the experts to comment. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() All right folks , can we move on to a DSLR from a P&S now ![]() Well I picked up a D80 from Jayesh today. Brilliant camera and has the looks of a D50 with quite a few features from the D200. Not too heavy and the functions menu is pretty simple. Nikon has actually retained most of the features from a D50(bodywise) and functions from a D200. Will post up pics in the coming days. |

| ![]() Heyyyy, nice thread this is. Well, I am planning to gift my Dad a camera. His wish was to have a SLR. He has just got discharged from the hospital, so thought the gift will pep him up a bit. Anyways, down to the point. My budget is around 20-25k. Want a Digital SLR. Either looking for a Canon or Nikon. Can anyone of you suggest a camera in this range and also anyone from Mumbai can suggest which shop to head to ? It will really be a big help for me. Cheers! |

Canon | 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Autofocus Lens | 1258B002 | B&H instead of this one Canon | 70-300mm f/4-5.6 EF IS USM Autofocus Lens | 0345B002 1. the F/4 L is twice the cost? 2. will I need the extra stop from F/5.6 or is it that the F/4 L can be used wide open but the 70-300/4.5-5.6 cannot. 3. remember I loose out on 100mm. I intend to use this lens purely for school events and maybe a little for aero-model flights. 4. is this lens better (sharper, less CA, etc..) than my main lens (17-55/2.8)? I would like to spend more on the lens I use most. It would be odd having L glass for a lens used 2-3 times a year and non-L glass for a lens used every week or so.
