Was reading these two reviews by same site- on S3 IS and S5 IS

Canon PowerShot S3 IS Review: 14. Conclusion: Digital Photography Review
Canon PowerShot S5 IS Review: 20. Conclusion: Digital Photography Review

Seems, S3 IS is having 'highly recommended' rating compared to 'recommended' rating for the S5 IS. Reason stated is picture quality. Any worrying factor? (Although i may never even get to notice the difference )

I don't think they make lenses without AF anymore. I use manual focus only for very special needs, like macros or when I want to pre-focus for an action shot. And the only time I use manual (M) mode is while using spot metering. Somehow I prefer that over using AE lock. Otherwise I am permanently on S-AF and aperture priority.

I would suggest a Sony T200 very slim compact 5x Opti zoom. Excellent travel companion!

It is already Oct 17th in Japan, and E3 is out.

Translated version of http://article.pchome.net/content-480111.html

It is a google translation of Chinese page, so bear with me.

IS that can compensate up-to 5 stops???

Well, no surprises actually, it is pretty much what was in the famous leaked document. It is going to be called E3, again no surpises except for the 5 stop IS.

Actually, I am told that Nikon D40 with guarantee can be had from 26600 onwards, depending on from where you get it. Bigger shops charge more. Yes, Canon 350D is also available for around the same price with B&W.

If you are ok with gray market stuff, D40 gets much cheaper than the 350D. While the gray market price for the 350D is around 23000 the D40 is available for around 21500 onwards or even lower.

Vibration Reducer?! You mean IS I guess. Well, no. That you can have at a higher price point. Both Sigma and Tamron have IS lenses but those will be costlier. These two lenses cost around 15000 odd and give very decent result, except for the long end of the lens. You can try high ISO shooting to offset the lack of IS to some extent though. Else, buy a costlier lens.

The E3 comparison, the body is priced at $1699 I think.

Now I have to wait for comparison between E-510 and E3. Many people were expecting the moon after what Nikon did with their recent releases, but Olympus E3 didn't throw up any surprises, offered only what was leaked few months back. Same sensor as E-510 but with better IQ.

The very first hands-on preview: Olympus E-3 Digital Camera - Hands-On Preview - The Imaging Resource!

Can't crib about viewfinder anymore: Olympus E-3 Digital Camera Operation - Hands-On Preview - The Imaging Resource!

Or about slow AF: Olympus E-3 Digital Camera Optics - Hands-On Preview - The Imaging Resource!

In my limited expereince I have never had good expereince with the IQ 3rd party lenses. Now this was on the Nikon system (N80/D70/D80) and with the lesser zooms (70-300/4-5.6 etc..). Hence I prefer to stick to Canon/Nikon/Oly-Zuiko lenses as the case may be.
Navin, only Pentax and olympus offer international warranty on bodies. So if you buy B&W anywhere in the world, they will honor warranty.

In case of canon, the lenses have worldwide warranty, but buying a body from malaysia means that you do not get any warranty on the body in India.

The funda with Warranty is simple i guess. I bought my D50 from Camera Citi in Chennai. They obviously sold me an imported (Grey) stuff and were very transparent about warranty.
Their stand was if I wanted Nikon warranty I had to pay 12 or whatever Percent tax and duties and Nikon India will honor the warranty.
If i did not want to do all that they will give a shop warranty card which has a 1 year warranty and they will replace anything at no cost and not a paise charged.
To my surprise the within 5 days of buying my camera(same time last year) my built-in flash stopped working. They honored the warranty and had it fixed in a jiffy. Not a paise spent. I'm sure big shops around India will have similar warranty funda right?

and now they got a 14-35/2.0 SWD lens as well. have you not heard? mate that to your 50-200 and you got a great combo. all you need is a 20-24/1.2-1.4 prime for low light needs and you are in business.

But from wherever you get a better deal.
What I meant to say was that for body, since the canon india price is 70K+ get the cheapest grey market price you can find. For lenses ditto but get bill and warranty, irrespective of where you buy from

I have heard more than that, that 14-35 F/2 SWD costs about US$2300. But I am extremely happy with my 14-54mm, so that's not an issue.

The cheapest SWD lens costs about US$1000, that is the 12-60mm I had mentioned before. So I can't make use of that fastest AF feature so easily. But definitely much better AF than before.

Currently not planning on any new lens, except may be the cheapo 70-300mm which is wait-listed, but it won't be as good as my 50-200mm. So I will be switching to E3 in about 3-4 months I suppose, it will be available by Christmas.

Seems fair enough, you get this even on ebay for cameras but you have to bear the courier cost to the vendor.

Does Photo Corner(jayesh) offers similar terms ???

i liked the Image Stabilizer feature on the T20. However, the external looks is what made me resist from buying it.
