TSK is a better person to comment on this. Please don't get me wrong. I've no idea about these cameras.

RKG, members can give recommendations on cameras they own, or point you towards a camera based on your requirement. However, if you want expert opinion on specific cameras, you are better off getting it from Steve's Digicam or DPReview. Asking specific members who don't own those cameras to give opinion is not appropriate. Not only you won't get expected opinion, you will put them into a fix by forcing them to respond.

(They say 550 will be available only from the month of May 07)

or

4. Fuju A 700, 2.5" display, 7.1 mega pixel, 3x zoom, video recording, 2 yrs warranty- Rs.11,500/-
Iam confused between these two. Fuji seems to be better config at marginal increase in price (beter pixel, larger screen). Is there any other hidden config that needs to taken care.

@surprise, rkg, look up dpreview.com for the reviews of these cams. They do a pretty good job.
When you are confused between two cams, just open them in Buying guide -> Side by side

I am not wrong Fuji doesnt have image stabilization. For such long zoom IS is a must.

Yes, Fuji does not have image stabilization. For long zooms its important, so better look at the FZ8 or something like that.
However there are some Fuji models with IS available.

huh?
It actually depends on what you want.
If you like macro FZ8 is better ( 5cm as opposed to 10cm)
FZ8 has RAW mode, canon has none.
S3 Is has better IQ in some scenarios, but has limit to shutter speeds at highest aperture...
So check out the features. FZ8 may be a better camera for some, and S3-IS a better for others.

My bad... agree with you, depends on what one is looking for, S3 IS would have been "my" choice.
I have an issue with Panasonic's noise even at low ISO's, as for features you win some you loose some.

A little correction tsk1979... There's super macro mode in Canon S3 IS which will let you focus on subjects 0 cm from the lens!
Also the minimum shutter speed that S3 IS gives you is 1/3200 compared to 1/2000 for Panasonic.
