Yes ntomer... you are right. It was my mistake. I meant D70... that I believe is now some 3 years old (if not exactly something close to that). At that time it was THE big thing in the entry level SLR. Of course D80 is very new.

Zappo,
thanks mate. Are you planning to buy from Hyd? I too need one. Can we put up a bargain for two instead of one?

I would not know abt the price difference between both and the reson for the same.

i have a Canon Powershot A710iS and it is pretty good in terms of picture quality (7.1MP), navigation, features etc. Not used it extensively though so cant say much.

Will be able to post more about it after the trackday this weekend.

Suggest you to try nikon alternatively. I had one which developed a problem with the CCD. now it is repaired under warranty in the US and i will be getting it sometime soon. nikon makes awesome camera's

I follow this guy Andrzej Wrotniak's website regularly since he is an expert on Olympus dSLR. Recently I saw this article that I feel is useful to most of us.

Off topic : Canon services centres opened in Gurgaon and Mumbai

Canon India has announced the inauguration of its 'Level IV Master Service Centers' in Mumbai and Gurgaon.

The company said these 'Master Service Centers', spread over 2,000 square feet each, are the first Canon-owned camera repair and service centers designed on international standards. Besides, the company will also be renovating two authorized service franchises at Hyderabad and Chennai.

It is learnt that these centers have been designed, and equipped to handle services of all Canon digital cameras, DVs, DSLRs, and lenses. The services offered will include repair of all Canon digital cameras and lenses, CMOS cleaning, and professional support on software up-gradation.

Speaking on the occasion, Kensaku Konishi, President and Chief Executive Officer, Canon India, said, "Customer satisfaction and customer delight is the backbone of Canon India. The inauguration of the two new service centers is an extension of our focus in providing customers faster response and enhanced personalized services."

The new centers are equipped with all the necessary tools of international standards, with a dark room facility to handle lenses and DSLR adjustments, including Auto Focus adjustment; Fledge Back adjustment; SPC adjustment (for exposure setting); CMOS adjustment; Flash adjustment; White Balance; Color Matrix; Shutter unit replacement and related adjustments; Lens optical adjustments; Image Stabilizer adjustment; all electrical adjustments; and Software upgradation.

Alok Bharadwaj, Vice President, Canon India, said, "Canon is committed to enhance its service quality, and considering the fact that professional photographers face a problem in servicing of lenses, these service centers will come as a delightful experience for them."
Meanwhile, the company is planning to open two more service centers in the second half of this year at Bangalore and Kolkata.

Recently got a Canon Powershot A710 IS. Not used it too much, so cannot say much on the prints, but first impressions are good. Got it from Thailand for an approx Rs 17 K including the cost of 1GB Mem card and carry case.
