So, anybody upgrade to 8.2 yet? Looks like the major inclusion is the Apple Watch support and the Health app. There are itsy bitsy bug fixes too.

I did. Didn't see any significant improvements. Nothing bad to report either.

BTW, I haven't been following the jailbreak scene in recent times. Is jailbreak available for iOS 8?

Just curious, is this a 2012 iPhone 5 ?
I have a 'bought-in-India' iPhone 5 which has also developed the 'bulging' battery issue !
And it's also got the non-functioning 'Home' button problem.
Pity that a 50K phone has such issues in such a short span of time.
Anyway, a word of warning to those who use the heavy phone covers from Capdase - these covers tend to mask the battery bulging issue.
So take the phone out of the cover once in a while to check if you've got this issue, otherwise you might have a rude awakening on Apple quality - like I did !

Thank you. Will try that. The part number for North American iphone 5 is different. The official service centers do not stock this here in India

It is from 2012. Was bought on the day of the launch, 21-Sep.

I agree, the parts doesn't seem to be as reliable as earlier (still have a functional 3G; 8 years and counting). But am still happy with the response I got for my problems even though the device is no longer under warranty.

I have been told that even this could be repaired here (for free) but for want of the battery specific to the phone. I have an open offer by email wherein I can get the phone to Canada or US or Germany till Sep this year and get this rectified for free (even the device replaced if needed).

So you should be able to get the battery replaced for free since the device was purchased here. Also does your device come under the "battery recall"?

https://www.apple.com/in/support/iphone5-battery/

I have decided to go ahead and replace the battery myself and hence scouting around for the right battery here. If that fails will get one from NA.

Re: The iPhone Thread

okie, now when i'm trying to update to 8.2, i'm getting the following error:

There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. An unknown error occurred (-23).

this is what they've on the Apple site:
Quote:
Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer might have a hardware issue that stops the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't blocking your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Make sure that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
my phone conked?

edit: recently they had blocked couple of sites like YouTube, Linkedin, Facebook etc. for our trade network, i'm guessing the Apple update server link also might have been compromised. connected to the corporate network using WiFi and viola - update started without any problems! phew!

This is usually seen when iTunes cannot connect to the Apple servers to download and complete the update. Good thing you were able to get it going via wifi.

Sometimes the error comes up when the phone is in the midst of the update, wherein the phone goes into recovery mode and then a DFU install is the only way out.

Do it over the air from the phone and not via iTunes
It's only 585mb but it got done much sooner for me, don't think it did the whole thing. Just downloads the necessary bits.

The iPhone Thread-imageuploadedbyteambhp1426580171.012273.jpg

I am facing no service issue in my iPhone 5C. It happens only when I am travelling in train, the connectivity is very poor in MUMBAI locals when the network is on 3G mode vodafone. Airplane method does not work. All I have to do is switch off and switch it on again.

Presently on 8.2, this issue also occurred prior to 8.2 update.

Any advice to overcome this issue ?

Updated OTA over the weekend for my iphone 5S. It was 343 MB. Haven't yet updated itunes. My wife has iphone 5, and her update was 285 MB. Both got done pretty quickly. Not sure how the update sizes vary so much.

Mine was 1.5GB. Was done through itunes. May be the size varies as per the current version as in of update size of 8.0.x to 8.2 would be bigger than 8.1.x to 8.2. Just a guess.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Great deals on iPhones on Paytm. Just bought an iPhone6 64gb 52k! Thats the cheapest I have ever seen it online in India. Only catch is that the 9k discount on MRP is a PayTm credit that can be used for shopping, paying various bills, tickets, travel, etc
