The iPhone community has not been able to help much, counting on the motorheads to deliver.

Screentime is enabled for the kids phones and not sure since when but all extra screen time requests comes as a notification and as a text message. When the phone is not on me, kids smartly give the approval themselves as they know the phone unlock code, anybody else concerned with the text message approval and how to disable this?

Weird Experience with my iPhone 16 Promax

Last Sunday, my iPhone behaved quite abnormally and believe you me it was the first ever such experience ever since I owned an iPhone. Some of you here already know that I have been an iPhone user since the iPhone 6 days and owned every flagship iPhone since then (6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16)

Even though my ownership period with each iPhone is shorter than most folks but, what I always loved about iPhone is its performance as the experience is always smooth and fluid. Jumping around screen, apps and multi tasking is an experience that I find total joy in and never get that experience in androids (Been using an android S22 Ultra for nearly a year now and it’s just relegated as a phone to check emails and rarely join teams call as it’s an official phone and I hardly use it).

Last Sunday, we made a day trip to Canada and as always it takes about 5 mins for cellular connection to come up even though I have a free data and cell roaming in Canada and Mexico. All was fine for a couple of hours in Canada and then suddenly, the iPhone behaved abnormally and for literally 2-hours my phone was stuck and swiping screens was an ordeal as I swipe screen-it would change after 10 seconds or even more. I wanted to apply the standard policy of rebooting the phone but, this was the biggest surprise, the 2-button action to switch off phone just won’t work.

Next on, I tried going into setting to shut the phone. To my disbelief, setting app won’t open.

I was like- “ What the heck is happening”. Now, I was totally upset. Felt like calling Tim Cook and cooking him over for my dinner…lol!

I kept trying every other few minutes and phone would behave the same way.

2-Hours passed and then I had pressed the setting button sometime ago and finally it showed that screen. Scrolling down took lot more seconds and then finally switched off the phone hoping it would turn back on.

Waited for 5-mins and switched the phone on. It came on instantly and everything was like before. The same zippy and fast iPhone 16 Promax that I had before.

Possible reasons :

1. Storage is full. Nope, it has over 20 gb free.
2. Charging in the car is culprit? I do that a few times with all other iPhones. Nothing like this happened ever before.
3. Canada showed its displeasure with an American product? Possible

Any of you folks experienced this behavior ? Any insights on what could have been going on with the mind of my iPhone?

Anyhoo, I think it’s time to change the iPhone to SLIM iPhone 17 in September 2025.

Currently on the iPhone 11 for the last 5 years.

Battery life the last few days has been miserable (I've been travelling and lot more calls). The battery drops steeply while on calls.

Its on the replacement battery for the last year or so and health is at 92%

Thinking whether I should wait for the 17 or go with the 16.

Just put it down to tantrums mobike008

Probably you are aware but next time something crazy happens try this:
Press and release volume up and volume down buttons in that order. Next press and hold the power button till the Apple logo appears. First the normal swipe to shut down will come, don’t do anything just keep holding the power button till the Apple logo appears and then release it.

This should cure most of the issues and anyways September/October isn’t far away

As suggested by Cyborg above, force restarting the iPhone could have helped.

Sorry for nitpicking, but Apple never launched iPhone 9.

This is actually the first time I'm hearing of this. I thought this type of behavior was restricted to older gen Androids, but they never went to this extent!

Also, being an Android fanboy, this is content for me to pull my Apple friends' legs. I'll show them this post and be like "dekho saalo, mera Nothing Phone nahi lag hota, logon ke iPhones lag ho rahe hai"

translation : look guys, people's iPhones are lagging whereas my Nothing Phone doesn't

That's a lot of iPhones, and I assume you also bought the same for your family?

If you had bought Apple shares instead of iPhones for yourself and 2 more of your family members (family of 3), you would have had a hypothetical profit of about $400,000 by now!

Maybe I was not clear in my OP.

I tried all these tricks. Pressed volume buttons as you suggested and pressed volume + main button on right. Nothing happened. I tried my best to "shut down" or "restart" the phone in every possible manner but, that option wasn't working for a couple of hours.

Yeah, September is not too far away and this incident has forced me to look for an upgrade…lol!

As mentioned above, none of the usual tricks worked for those 2-odd hours.

I wrote that in a flow and aware that there was no iPhone 9 but, the point was that I have used every iPhone since 6 and it has always been a flawless experience till this incident. Not even once the phone hung.

Haha! Sure this incident will surely give the android fanboys a chance to shoot down iPhone. Please be my guest…I’m just happy that I provided the necessary but, rare entertainment source to the android fanboys.

Yup. Everyone in the family owns an iPhone but, I’m the only one who changes the phone every year. My wife once in 2-years and mom once in 2-years.

I do know about popular memes of folks buying apple shares vs. iPhones and becoming rich. Forget about investing in apple shares, if I had restricted myself from not buying iPhones and used a “nothing phone”, I would have pocketed enough cash to call myself rich.

Looks like I’m doomed to continue life as a “poor man”.

Got the iOS 18.5 update yesterday , so far looks ok.

Unrelated to this update:
Wondering if anyone has noticed iphones getting warm between 8-9 PM. Is there some background activity getting triggered? (My auto download downloads/updates etc are switched off)
