No no no no no....

As i said too early to conclude, got hung in the morning once. So i shifted to the other SIM and now under observation, one thing i noticed much stable than any other ROM i had since the hang ups started, including the factory ROM.

Now this creates another issue, will i make a fool out of myself when i goto the service center. So need to wait more and test also to ensure if its working or not

I was all the while using OE ROMS direct from Manufacturer. Directly downloaded from dopod sites.

Was running ROM 1.11.4XX.1B WWE when it came from the box. Then the problem started.

So first tried ROM 1.17.707.2B WWE didnt help much, though memory usage was better in this one.

Then tried this one ROM 1.15.721.3B WWE ASIA HK again worked overnight and in the morning back to square one.

So went and tried this one 1.11.405.1B but didnt load more than 2%, i think this one required CID unlock which i didnt bother, but somehow system was stable for half a day and then again started misbehaving.

So as a final try i tried ROM 1.11.707.1B WWE yesterday, only diff was loaded direct from bootloader, since activesync was acting up. So since midnight till now one round of tantrum.

Back in office now, will take it to the service center by noon if it acts up, otherwise wait and watch.

Feels like driving around with a bad tyre and a blown spare tyre (this is a car forum for pete's (not perf box) sake!).

Okies handed over the phone to service center due to intermittent hanging/restarting. Guy flashed ROM and handed over in 15 mts, so i insisted that he run it for a day or so, and confirm before handing it over to me. He is fine and said he will double check and then give a call.

So warranty is working, hope issue is sorted out soon.

The BB calendar app is quite competent, and with 2-way sync with the desktop calendar (e.g. Outlook), it is quite nifty. What other 'cool' features did you have in mind?

Taking notes: use the built in notes app. I have stopped carrying around paper / diaries after I got onto the BB for the last 3 years.

Jaggu.. Bit confused. Is your phone a Dopod branded one or an HTC branded one?

Havent had any issue with my HTC Touch so far. Battery life is really great - Lasts for 3 days, which is a First for me atleast among all the WM phones.

BTW, BSNL EVDO service is something to keep in mind for the future, considering your business needs.

Which of the blackberry's are you using? I guess it doesn't make much sense to go to a blackberry if I can't get access to my office mail thru it.

Has anyone got any experience with HP iPaqs?

HP iPAQ 612c Business Navigator (FB062AA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office products

It has a decent bunch of features.. might be pricey though

Arent you using an HTC Touch? Whey then were you downloading Dopod ROMs? The device is the same but the ROMs are meant for different regions.

HTC device OE = HTC ROMs. Dopod Device OE = Dopod ROMs and so on.

When you click on HTC site it redirects to Dopod servers only Actually HTC site is pathetic, even the language is typical chinese translated to english at times.

Let me clarify, these are OE HTC ROMS hosted in DOPOD servers but naming will show it indeed is HTC ones. RUU is ROM Upgrade utility. Ship at the end denotes the ROM originally shipped out, its the version numbers that really matter.

egs: RUU_Elf_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.1B_4.1.13.42_02.93.90_Shi p

Region difference is applicable if the device is locked or supplied by a specific vendor and which needs support of certain language. In that case these ROM wont work while flashing, ie it will not proceed with flashing at all.

Anyways, the flash i had was indeed OE, this was again confirmed by service center. Only thing it was an older version compared to the latest one available with them.

@Mayank: Currently hanging on with HP IPAQ 69XX

I use an 8700 now, earlier it was some other pseudo-colour model.

Huh? Now why would you not get access to your office mail? I thought all BB users use it specifically for THAT purpose.

There will be some company's policy? The company where I used to work, only AVPs, VPs, Regional Managers, CEO etc are allowed to access company id from their mobile phones. I was using Lotus Notes. Hence it is pointless to buy a BB where you cant access your company id. For a core marketing job, allowing mails on mobiles is ultimate! But sadly...

There are all kinds. Where I work, there is no DHCP despite requiring SSID/WEP on the WLAN! Now who is to tell the Infra guys about policies not keeping up with technology?

BB supports Lotus seamlessly; the rest of it is policy. You will be surprised that if you test it, quite likely it would have worked - since Admin would be relying on users not knowing how to, rather than checks and measures. If 'some' were allowed OTA/OTI access, the channel was already there. Most companies do not allow 'forwarding' of mails by this access method. I would be surprised if your admin guys would have actually implemented user-level access prevention.

Anyways, the first few charges drain away in 1-2 days but as you one lets it drain completely before recharging, this helps in bringing the battery to the optimum efficiency.

Also I heard a lot of people disable the auto sleep function which once again drains the battery more. I do not use any of the data connections except only when I need them. If Bluetooth is on all the time, then battery does not last more than 2 days.

But calls do not seem to discharge the battery too much.

Yeah you're right.. its a position thing...only the general manager and above have blackberry's. Otherwise its need based. I doubt my boss sees a need in my case
