I have a postpaid plan with BSNL for mobile. A week back I bought an E72 and got my plan changed to BSNL 3G. I have also a BSNL land line with broadband.

In BSNL broadband land line connection one could check the account usage details through internet whenever one wished.

Can it be done for BSNL 3G too?

Second, I have installed Google Maps on my E72. Can anyone enlighten me if Google Maps connect to the internet every time I open it or it is only a one time process triggered when the application was installed?

Mod - This post was earlier erroneously posted by me on another thread. My apologies.

1) I check my phone log (Nokia 5230) for the packet data usage once a day. Anyway I have now upgraded to unlimited connection with Aircel for Rs.98/- per month, so not worried now!

2) Google-maps requires a continuous GPRS connection. So only an unlimited connection will justify its use (Google themselves warn of this on their web-page).
Check Options/Help/About in google-maps on the phone for the usage statistics.
My drive yesterday of 70 kms consumed around 6 MB .

although it may not download anything if the map is already cached from your last visits. But yes if connectivity is not there it does not work.

What is the cheapest touch screen phone(Except chinese junk) available in india?
Can any one give an idea. My budget is 10k.
The phone should have touch screen, big screen:) ,camera,FM radio etc.

How about the Corby range. IIRC they are under 10k and one of the models comes with a touch screen.

I think the Cookie is also under 10k.

Why not the Nokia 5230? its within 10k & comes with GPS

Corby is a great phone. Only problem is that the touch screen keyboard is not qwerty.:Frustrati
Also check out the samsung Star Wifi.

+1 to that.
I have bought Nokia 5230 three weeks back for Rs.8,400/- and am very satisfied.
I mainly bought it for GPS.
I am using both Nokia-maps and Google-maps on it.

Need a low cost mobile phone for my mom.

Will always be at home 95% of the time. B/W screen is adequate. No camera or anything.
Just a very basic mobile is what I am looking for.

Any suggestion? Please.

Thank you all for your quick response. (And i know this can happens only in T-BHP :thumbs up )

Currently i m using a Nokia 6630 phone(2005 model). Still it is in best shape and working without any problem. So my first prference will be a Nokia. But i am open to other brand also.

Which one is better?
SAMSUNG------Nokia------LG
In respect of below points:-
--Reliability
--Feature
--Style

And i like to have a feature GPS in my next phone.

BB - I bought my Mom a Nokia 5030 It was for Rs 1,900.

no camera, has color screen & the best part is that it can play radio without headphone plugged in with single press of a button (dedicated Radio & Volume button on side.) :)

Of course there are cheaper Nokia models with B/w screen & no frills

EDIT - 5030 has torch as well

IIRC, I bought the Nokia 1209 for 1400 last June. It is a basic color phone and has a torch (must for senior citizens) and battery life of 10 days.

As far as reliability is concerned, Nokia is the Toyota of the mobile phone industry. I havent had good experience with Samsung so will not recommend one.

Hi,

I face a peculiar problem with Cellphones. Thanks to my propensity to talk long, most of my phones end up getting damaged due to sweat.

I have tried sliders, bars and what not. Samsung, Nokia etc. Nothing seems to work.
Seeing that my Nokias don't last longer than 10 months, I was wondering whether these new brands are worth going in for.

I wouldn't mind junking a 3000-4000 rupee phone after 10 months. But the question is, would they last for even that long?

I am now looking at qwerty keypads as I text a lot too. I know qwertys and sweaty humans don't gel well, but how bad can it get?
Maybe I should start using a bluetooth headset.

Or is there a reasonably feature-laden and priced phone that is resistance to overtly sweaty people.

The two locally branded qwerty phones that I am looking at are:
