Can someone please provide feedback and/or opinion on the ACER F900 smartfone...???

Any idea when we are going to get the rumored 700 Rs Nokia phone or those 10$ and 15$ vodaphone devices(launched this week during mobile world congress) in India?. Enough of android and rest of the smartphones. Want to try these simply talk phones. Just the old days - small B&W display and no major features besides alarm.

Any problems faced with GPS? Also could you please elaborate on the bugs you have faced?

No problems at all with the GPS. They all have been sporadic bugs ranging from hung messaging to non responsive volume button. Fortunately no crashes or restarts.

After V40 the GPS has become supersensitive. My 5800 by far has the most sensitive GPS unit i have come across in a mobile phone. The thing catches a few satellites even when I am inside my home and the cold lock time in a moving car is not more than 1-2 minutes.

hey guys, i am looking for a new phone. My budget is anywhere between 20,000 to 30,000 INR.

this time i need a phone with a-
* 8 MP camera (though even 5MP would do)
* touch screen (touch screen + QWERTY keypad would be great)
* sleek looks

i am really a nokia fan & i really love & PREFER their phones. but i wont mind experimenting with other makes too.

the ones i have shortlisted till now are:

* N 97 mini- my favourite! comes with QWERTY + touch pad, has a 8 GB memory which is more than enough for me but sadly comes only with a 5MP camera. costs 30,000.

* LG GC 900 Viewty- it has a 8 MP camera! but reviews suggest camera quality is just average! no QWERTY too. another downside is its an LG. costs 27,000.

* LG GD 900 Crystal- again has a 8 MP camera which reviews say is good & has got a cool crystal keypad. no QWERTY or touch screen. costs 26,000.

* Samsung Omnia HD i8910- my second favourite phone. has got touch screen without QWERTY & has a good 8 MP camera. costs 33,000.

i really like the N97 for the fact that it has all that i need except a 8 MP camera. AND ITS A NOKIA!

samsung omnia offers an 8MP camera but no QWERTY. and its a samsung!

HELP!

^^ how about sony satio or htc phones - or wait for the android based sony xperia x10 :-)

Sony Xperia x10 would be really good if you can wait (I am thinking we could upgrade Android OS to get multi-touch). I was in the World Mobile Congress and its exciting to see the releases planned in the coming year.

thanks for the reply buddies.

when will the sony be launched? what is the approx price?

^^ i hear xperia x10 launch is q1 2010 - so about time :-)

N97 mini doesn't cost 30K. Last time I checked, it was roughly 22K in Bangalore.

I feel you are confusing it with N97 (original, not the mini)

oh, thats good news then! i read in tech2.com that its costs 30k whereas the N97 was 34k.

if given a choice between the N97 & N97 mini, which one is better?

ALSO, hows the Nokia X6 or Nokia N900 compared to the sony Xperia X10?

on second thoughts, i dont really need a QWERTY keypad (!!), so the lack of it in the nokia X6 & sony X10 is not really a big issue.

raj - i have no idea on the cost part of the xperia x10

N97 never became a popular model. IMHO, it is too bulky and expensive (even for the features it offers).

N97 mini is slightly thinner, smaller and lighter as compared to N97. N97 mini has almost all the features of N97. IIRC, the only differences are memory size and battery capacity.

None of these is a major issue though. There is provision for increasing memory through memory card. Battery life is still respectable for a touch screen smart phone.

N97 mini is a great buy for its price. :thumbs up

The N97's D-Pad has been replaced by four arrow keys on the N97 mini on the far right.
Using the D-pad is much easier with the left thumb while the right thumb selects the options or menu-key. Putting the arrow keys on the right has spoiled this convenience. :Frustrati

The FM transmitter on the N97 can send songs to the car stereo.
The N97 Mini lacks this feature.

To reduce the size of the N97 mini, Nokia put a weaker battery into it.
The N97 has a 1.5 Ampere hour battery.
The N97 Mini has a 1.2 Ampere hour.
This means 3 hours less of battery time !
