First it was T610(2004 it was priced at 10,000/- for the spiderman 2 edition!!!) which lasted for 3years (sold it for 3500/- in 2007!!) and now its W200i (bought in April 2007!!). I agree with the charging port problem!!! But just like the previous time, bought a charger and cleaned the port on the phone using a pointed object, the charging problem is gone!!!

But now I will be migrating to Samsung(jack i637 to be precise!!) just for the sake of QWERTY and document reader under 10,000/-. 3G and wifi is just a bonus!!! :D. I will be laying my hands on it on 13th August!!

+1 Add me to the list too.

Use to have a SE T100 back in India. Never really liked Nokia phones for their bulkiness.

Went on to buy a couple of w580i for their good 2 mp camera and excellent walkman. In between tried to switch to a Samsung by trying an Eternity. Didn't really like it so came back to get an upgrade to C905A.

Though, i haven't faced any charging problems on two w580i and c905 for last 3 yrs. Touchwood.

In sept i may migrate to Iphone 4 having owned 2g and 3gs.

Infact the only reason that I have chnaged my SE/Ericsson phones was due to charging problems after about 1.5 to 2 years of use. I know a lot of SE users who too have faced the same port problems.

Even I have used several SE phones (K500, W300, W660) and I am satisfied with them, except for the fast port connector. SE need to accept that it is a design flaw and a major turn off for most buyers.

1. You can't connect the charger and handsfree together (unless you buy an additional charger with cascading connector)
2. Charger contact points develop contact problems after some time. You have to adjust/align the connector to make a contact.
3. 3.5 mm audio connector is not directly provided on the handset, it is provided on the walkman handsfree.
4. Connector is flimsy and comes off easily

SE have been moving away from the fast port connector in their high end phones, but still stick to the same arrangement for the other phones. They should completely do away with the fast port connector and have separate ports for charger and handsfree (similar to Nokia).

I hope SE is listening. Most of the SE fans have just 1 major problem with their SE phones, the charger connector. I am sure this issue must have been raised by a lot of people worldwide but still we continue seeing the same old connector in even most of their new models.

This changed when my N85 broke it's USB charge port when dropped on carpet with chrager on, and broke it's OLED screen when it fell on hardwood from less than 1 meter height.

A couple of days ago, the Nokia CEO made it clear that they will never use Android. They dont want Google to control their phone.
MeeGo on Intel or ARM processors would make Nokia shine again.

If you think only Nokia and SE make sturdy phones think again. I had a Samsung C100 back in 2004 when i fell off my bike at over 80KMPH and broke my collar bone. The phone was in my shirt pocket and fell atleast 10m away from where i fell ( A car guy who crossed me after i fell down spotted the phone and gave it to me ). It didn't have even a single scratch while i was out with a broken bone for the next one month. The great thing was that this phone was a fantastic looker and didn't look ugly and bulky like the Nokia ones.

I must apologize to MODS if a similar thread exists and I have missed, or if relevant discussion has happened in other Mega-thread on mobile phones.

But fact of the matter is that, now I am sick of going through vast information available on net about new/old phones, old/new mobile companies and their new launches every days. Naturally, I turn to T-BHP for suggestions.

I am not a geek as far as phones are concerned, so my requirement is simpleI found some cool ones in my search (not in the order of preference):Can the geeks/mobile gurus make good recommendations here? I don't care about brand/snob value as long as the product is good.

I am planning to purchase it sometime during this week.

Thanks!

Nokia E63. Pretty good phone. Only GPS is missing.

That CEO itself might be on on his way out.

Look at it from Customer and Software developer point of view. Smartphones are useless without applications. And in next few months ALL existing applications will stop working on new phones.

All developers will have to invest on porting their apps to first Symbian 3 and later to MeeGo. Quite a few of them are choosing to abandon Symbian at this point (E.g. Garmin and Skype).

Instead of 5233, go for 5230 navigation pack. It is with GPS and free lifetime navigation and car holder. Price ~ 7.4K.

I got very basic requirement from the phone i.e. to make calls and receive calls. But, GPS is one thing which I find really useful. Rest all (MP3, video, FM etc) is nice to have but not strictly necessary, there enough other gadgets for all that.

@salbin, thanks! I'll have a look at it.

As I think more, I would like to add "Dual SIM" as one more requirement.

I am looking for the following phone for my wife. It is the Nokia 3710 fold.

We found it in Sangeetha in black. But my wife will only accept it in plum color shown above. Any idea how to get it in plum color, which no retailer bothers to keep?

I completely agree. Samsung makes best mobile hardware, but their software stinks, which made me stop buying Samsung after long stint of loyalty to them. The Nokia and SE have good software, but hardware is nowhere near the robustness of Samsung.

I think only Apple & HTC have the best combo of hardware and software. Motorola is on the other end, they are bad in both hardware and software.:)

Try at some Nokia priority dealer, or the big Nokia store on Church street (parallel to MG road).

There are more chances of it being available at Nokia store, as compared to other retailers.

Also, inquire at the Nokia store if they can order the particular colour for you.

Rohan

I would suggest go for a Nokia, either 5233 or 5230. Mainly because of Symbian OS. It is very easy to find and install GPS applications on Symbian.

I have Nokia 5800 and have Mapmyindia, NDrive, Garmin installed not to mention default Nokia maps. 2 months back bought Samsung S5620 (Monte) for wifey. Still not able to find any GPS application for that ... :Frustrati
