But I found out that the first time I set it up on a computer, it does ask for a password, provided the phone lock is also enabled. I will test it again, but that gives me some comfort.

However, if the phone lock is not enabled, it's still open to data theft.
Now I have some better understanding. When the HTC phone is connected to a PC, it gives an option of connecting as a disk or activesync. when connected as a disk, the data transfer is super fast, obviously because the files are not encrypted. when connected as activesync, the files are encrypted and transfer is slow.

I like the fact that phone gets locked when an unfamiliar PC is used. Now I am having trouble with S2U2 locker since it seems to allow system prompts and in the process can open up the phone's content.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

My wife found SMS on the N8 diffcult. The Galaxy S was better but she still prefers a tactile keyboard. The BB Torch and N97 mini's keyboards were found too small, and the N900's screen was too cluttered. So now we are waiting for the E7. Any other options?

She wants an unclutttered screen with just SMS, a nice camera and phone capablities. No email, gmail, apps or flaps. Dont anyone make simple phones that look good and have solid "feel" anymore?

Navin, did she try Swype software for data input? She will forget typing on tactile keyboard.

She tried Swype and she got so bugged with it she almost took a swipe at the sales girl.

Guys remember we are not from the facebook, mobilephone, internet generation. The PC was produced AFTER I graduated from college with my masters. My wife is even less tech savvy. She is still to get an email account.

Navin, why are you looking at a phone about 5K?

You will get good phones with 2.2 inch 320 x 240 pixel screeen for that budget. Or did I miss anything?

Navin Sir, may be you can have a look at Motorola Charm. It runs on Android 2.1 and has a huge QWERTY keyboard. But the only downside is its 3.1MP camera.

Try the Nokia C6-00. It has features similar to N97 mini, but a better keypad.

I would suggest some of the sony phones. They still seem to be making regular phones compared to the other players. How about their cybershot range? e.g. C905a.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Any Nokia XpressMusic will do it. Suggesting that because I have used 5130 XM. X2 too does have a reasonably good voice recorder (both from the calls and external). Both cost around 5K.

I say "reasonably good" because other brands I have owned did not have this feature, but those were very basic phones.

I believe any phone with an addon memory card can reasonably do it, but I have not tried.

Both phones allow me to configure the voice recorder to one of the shortcut keys, and I simply hit the key when I want to record a call. Now that I can access that feature, I need it very frequently. :-D

Wife has a 2730, which too has a recorder, but have not tried it so far.
