Same question. How to install Android on HD7?

I am quite happy with WP7 OS. Especially the IE is a breeze to use.

Basically, a tough smartphone.

Some of you might wonder why not Defy. Good choice, but I have a Defy. Why have 2 Defys at home.
Why don't you pass on the Defy to your wife and get a smarter phone for yourself ? (Try this at your own risk, I would not be responsible for the consequences of trying to handover a used phone to the missus)

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active would be released in a while. This is also a rugged android phone like Defy, and looks cute too.

Among the current phones, you could have a look at Nokia E5. It is a non touch QWERTY phone. It has 3G and Facebook support and good build quality.

Oh, I have access to the Marketplace here in Singapore
And it’s quite impressive. Not so huge like Android Market / iPhone App Store, but got loads of useful applications. If Marketplace is not available in India, then it really mars the WP7 experience.

Folks, where can I download apps for Samsung Galaxy Ace? getjar doesn't seem to be working; is prompting me to install the getjar app even after I've installed it.

I set my location as US and now have access to Marketplace

Downloaded quite a few apps!

Btw, tell me something : if I've turned on wi-fi, if I'm using any of the apps or browsing, will the phone compulsarily use wi-fi or might use GPRS too? I'm on roaming right now and have been merrily downloaded apps! I'm connected to my home internet thru' wi-fi but need to be sure.

That’s cool. The Marketplace is quite handy indeed.

Normally, if you have the wi-fi connected, the data connection happens through that and 3G/GPRS is not used. But just for assurance, make sure that the following setting is kept:
Go to Settings -> Cellular. Data roaming options should be set as don’t roam

It looks cute and smaller, but have you checked the resolution? It may have been acceptable in 2008-2009, but now?

Even smaller display and it has QWERTY, unacceptable.

I really don't see any other choice than Defy.

Worth buying the Samsung galaxy s1 today? Or should I go for a newer phone?

The S1 looks pretty powerful even today.

My happiness seems short-lived.

Just realized the phone camera doesn't work. When I click on the Camera icon/use the exterior Camera button, the camera attempts to open and within a second goes back to the earlier page.

Searched around and realized a lot of people have faced this problem; seems to be some hardware problem. Plan to take it to HTC Service tomorrow.

Faulty camera + no marketplace in India : I'm sick of HTC already.

If this question is for WP7, then its over Wifi, even if GPRS is enabled. Note that you can disable data only for roaming.
BTW, WP7 related discussion in this thread too - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadget...nd-htc-hd.html Try in the last pages.

Oh thats not good. When I got the phone first, there was an issue with the camera. The flash was not firing. Took it back to HTC they replaced it with a new piece (since it was within 7 days of purchase).

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Fellow BHP-ians,
Myself not much a phone user and had an archaic CDMA handset with me till now. So apologies in advance for such a basic question. But next month I am going to UK as a student. I am looking a good phone allowing me to surf the internet, and possibly open documents. I would like it to have both touch-n-type, but also have good batt-life . Camera is not a big preference, but just good enough.
In current marketplace there are tooo many phones, so any recommendations is welcome.

-Thanks!

If that is an android phone, you have the android market place. Simple. Look for that icon on your hope screen - or under applications. You need to have a google account - gmail address will do. Or you can download the files with .apk extension and then install from the SD card - but I will not recommend that for security reasons.

Right now, thanks to my sister, I have access to a Blackberry with qwerty keyboard (can anybody tell me the equivalent of *#1111# or *#1234# for BBs?) and a Samsung Mini S GT 5570.

The flexibility of android platform has be bowled over. I have Underclocked it for better battery life, and gives 36+ hours between recharges. I also upgraded from 2.2.1 froyo to 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Will stay that way for couple of weeks, then move to 2.3.4 and then it will be CM.

It does have a few options on document viewrs (both for OpenOffice and MS Word), and pdf viewrs - both free and paid).

Right now, I choose free as in free of cost apps, because I dunno how to preserve the apps between flashes.

It is another matter that sister, who owns couple of iPhones, an IPad, at least 2 BBs and more than a few Nokia smart phones, choose the 5570 only because she knows that I am a linux fanatic.

Also, the learning curve for the UI was pretty steep. It took me 3 days to get comfortable with the UI. On the 4th day, I bricked it (flashed the wrong ROM), and on 8th day, got back to stock Gingerbread. (means, no phone from day 4 to 8). I guess it is about 12 or 15 days since I got the phone.
