GPS lock was a problem with SGSL. Update your phone with the latest Official froyo update available via Kies. GPS locks within seconds. Also battery lasts longer.

@shashank - you can always use the hardware buttons to navigate and select it. Anyways, its sad to see that didnt solve your issue. Its the service station for you then...

Use the 3 button recovery mode. Turn off the phone, press Volume up+Home+Power to get into recovery (release the power button as the phone boots up). Scroll down to Factory Reset using volume down key, the action button is your home button.

But I have only little hope that this would solve your issue.

Edit: Just re read that you figured it out but with no luck

Nope can't do on Galaxy S/SL/S2, there are no hardware navigation and action buttons on this one.

Nope, the pad you see is only a hardware home button. No hardware navigation options in this series of phones. Touch UI is the only option.

But there was no additional warranty coverage for this brand new handset (apart from the initial 12 month warranty, out of which 11 months are already over). So to be on the safer side, I opted for 12 month extended warranty.

Now I am also convinced that it was from a defective batch. I really dread to think what might have happened if the phone had conked off after the expiry of warranty period. Would they have asked me to changed the whole mother board (since the phone has been declared irrepairable by Nokia Care) ?
Exactly same problem with me too - Nokia 5230 conked off - after the warranty a few days back. Have to write it off. I may opt for an Optimus One now.

What was the problem you faced in your 5230 ?

What did Nokia Service Centre say ? Have they declared it irrepairable ?

Why don't you try some unauthorised service centre ? From my past experience, these people are more knowledgeable and capable than authorised service centres.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

My wife's Nokia 3710 fold is slowly dying. It cuts off calls, often just goes off. It comes to life only after re-seating the battery. She wants a new phone now.

Her requirements:
1) A phone that doesn't conk off. It will be left all around the house often and my toddler son gets play with it, even jump on it some time.
2) 3G + Facebook
3) Calls & SMS.
4) Budget within 15K.
5) Doesn't care about modern phone, is open to iPhone 3GS too, but it is outside budget.

Basically, a tough smartphone.

Some of you might wonder why not Defy. Good choice, but I have a Defy. Why have 2 Defys at home.

Get another Defy

Otherwise have a look @ Nokia E6. Price is around 15-16K if you purchase online after applying some discount coupon. My friend has it and he seems to be happy with the same (He is a Nokia fan).

Why sell off this HD7, my friend rooted his HD7 with Android GingerBread and its working like wonder. You can also do it and let you mom use a Android based HD7. My 2 cents.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

This will be a good alternative to Samsung Galaxy S IIand if price correctly
The Samsung Galaxy R has been known as the variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II with similar hardware specifications. The Galaxy R reminds us of what Samsung did with the Galaxy S by launching a variant in the form of the Galaxy SL. Now, this fancied cheaper alternative to the Galaxy S II has been finally made official by Samsung. The Galaxy R broke cover in Sweden last month, where the device is now available, while other regions of Europe and Asia will follow soon. As you would expect from a cheaper variant, the Galaxy R doesn't exactly have the same specs as the GS2. That being said, the Galaxy R is something to look out for in the mid-range segment.
Going by the handset's pricing in Sweden which is $600 (Rs 27,000 approx) it doesn't seem a lot cheaper than the GS2. Not sure about price on which it would be offered in India.

Done exactly that. Got her a Samsung Galaxy Ace.

So, how do I install Android on the HD7?
