Re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Experts, need suggestions.

My son will be starting college in a couple of months and will need a good mobile phone. I have shortlisted the below, need recommendations for the right choice. Budget is 40k max, preferable with 12 GB/256 or 512 GB config, Good camera, sufficient battery and if possible with Gorilla glass.

1. Samsung S24 FE 5G
2. Motorola Edge 60 Pro 5G
3. One plus 13R 5G
4. Samsung M56 5G
5. Nothing 3A pro 5G

Anything outside the above list I should be strongly considering, kindly suggest.

Of the phones listed, the OnePlus 13R 5G seems to be the most well-rounded device with a good processor, decent cameras, storage, performance and the like. The Motorola Edge 60 Pro 5G is a solid contender as well, with quite a capable processor, excellent cameras, good performance and features.

The other options listed don't quite match up with these two in terms of best bang for your buck. Both the Samsungs offer only 8 GB of RAM, and while the Nothing is a solid option, it offers a much slower processor and UFS 2.2 storage only.

Besides these, I would recommend the iQOO Neo 10, especially the 16GB RAM/512GB storage variant, which offers a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, 7000 mAh battery, and with the pre-booking offer, you get it at Rs.38999 and free iQOO TWS 1e worth Rs.2099 as well. A well-rounded phone at a good price in my opinon.

If you want a long lasting and reliable phone for your son, I would suggest you to go for the Samsung S24FE eyes closed. Samsungs are the Toyotas of smartphones. Moreover, One UI will provide a clutter free and clean experience. I'm not suggesting the M56 as it lacks the feel-good factor of the S24 FE. As you can afford the S series phones (judging from your options), it will be better to get the 24FE.

Of course, people might moan and cry about it getting an Exynos. But after watching my friend use it for some heavy usage, I can vouch for it. It gets UFS 3.1, which is decent.

Samsung, c'mon. You coulda done better
I get your point buddy. It is uneven and might actually trigger OCD persons, like it annoyed you. But, you know how I am. For me, functionality comes before form. As long as the charging socket and the speaker perform okay, I'm least bothered.

I would suggest looking at the Pixel 9 / 9 Pro as well. Solid phones that cover all the requirements mentioned.

Get an iPhone 15 or a 16e. Hands down better products. Worth exceeding the budget even

If you have to stick with Android, the OnePlus 13 is your best bet in your list. If you want to save the money, Nothing 3a is worth it. 3a Pro only adds a couple of extra camera capabilities not worth the extra money. If you want a Galaxy, get the S24 or S24+ over any FE model.
