The only laptop I currently have right now, which also works, is the ThinkPad I have received from my employer. While I am able to manage for now, it is not a desirable situation for me since there is no spare machine in case anything goes wrong with the ThinkPad.

To solve the above issue, I am looking for a personal 14 inch laptop with Ryzen 4500u /4700u CPU with the following must have requirements:

1. A 512 GB NVMe SSD
2. Backlit keyboard
3. At least 8 GB DDR4 RAM (upgradeable) (not LPDDR4X, this leads to worse CPU performance)
4. A decent screen for multimedia consumption
5. Not by a Chinese company
6. Within 1.6kg and ₹65k
7. 5-6 hours of battery while performing regular office tasks. Video calls, web browsing, running Google docs and sheets on Chrome.

Preference is Asus > Dell = Acer = MSI > HP

The only machine I have found till date which covers all of these must haves is the Asus Zephrus G14 but it will probably cost ₹1lac+ since it is a gaming laptop.

I have been looking for such a machine from the time these devices started coming out but it seems Asus/Acer/HP/Dell/MSI product managers are unable to figure out the secret sauce to make it a reality.

With AMD having such a noticeable performance lead, I don't want to compromise with even a 10th Gen Intel at this stage.

It is possible to overcome the GPU performance lead by opting for an Intel laptop with an Nvidia MX350 but that will lead to additional power draw and lower power efficiency & battery life. But it is definitely not possible to overcome the CPU performance lead in an ultrabook form factor.

I am looking for the additional performance, both computational and thermal, for future proofing and longevity since laptops tend to stay with me for years until they eventually die.

Suggestions for laptops which are in stock are welcome.

Check Acer Swift 5. Reviewed by Geekyranjeet on YouTube if you want to check it out. For around 65k, I liked that one. Also very light at 0.9kg

After the laptop that I use fell down almost a month ago, issues being faced are:

1) The base moulding has cracked;

2) If I lift the laptop slightly to change its position, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB ports get disconnected for say a few seconds;

3) Connector where the 1TB HDD plugs-in is almost loose and gets 'disconnected' when I try to lift the laptop;

4) LCD flickers at certain viewing angles.

5) Boot time is around 02 minutes 55 seconds after that only the laptop responds to right-clicks or anything.

6) The battery is dead fully, runs on AC power only.

7) Speaker isn't working anymore.

Current laptop configuration is - Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE:
RAM: 8GB DDR3, 1600 MHz
CPU: Intel Core i7-3612QM
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7730M (2GB DDR3)
HDD: Western Digital - 1TB (5400 rpm)

Battery: 48 Wh, Lithium-Ion, 6-cell
OS (64bit): Windows 10.

Is it worth to get the laptop repaired? If this doesn't seem worthy, I'll have to start looking out for a new one.

Look at this one, though not Ryzen 7 but still looks like a very good buy. Stick to the 4th Gen Ryzens.

I brought an Asus ROG SCAR II two years back and build quality wise I would rate it better than the present day Dell's. One of the reasons I went for Asus was it had a Single 16 GB stick, where as all others were 2 X 8 sticks, later I added another 16 gigs stick. With the 2 x 8, I would have to throw away both.

Personally would advise you to buy Asus laptops from authorised Asus Store's, in store purchase gives 2 years warranty compared to 1 year what you get online also in store, you can check for any damage to the laptop in front of your eyes. Unfortunatly two years back AMD still wasn't good at laptops else it would have been a Ryzen all the way. More OEM's should launch Ryzen laptops, only ASUS is having more models, shame on DELL for launching just a few Ryzen models.

I am already using the original charger. This started coming up a year back(the laptop is 2.5 years old) occasionally and re-plugging it usually solved it and it recognized the charger but off late I really need to push it in forcefully to recognize the charger. What can be the issue?

I have this issue with my latitude which is out of warranty. Bios update & other troubleshooting did not help. Had to buy a new laptop charger.

Try it with another dell charger suitable for your model and then decide.

Not sure about the prefix. The laptop has two ram slots, one 8 GB RAM stick has been soldered on to slot 1 (this cannot be upgraded), but the second slot can be upgraded, I believe it will take a max of 16 gigs, so max ram you can upgrade to is 24 GB. Personally speaking, I wouldn't go for soldered ram, but then your use might be different.

IMO if you can increase your budget to around 75-80k then you'll find suitable options from HP and Dell which would fulfill your requirements. AMD is definitely leading in the game and offering much more bang for buck as compared to Intel.
