Can I connect wireless USB stick to WD TV player? Will it work or it has to be LIVE version only. I don't want to have cables around TV and will play only youtube kind of videos so bandwidth is okay with 'G' network.

Any comments.

It is possible with a custom (Brad) firmware but it only works with specific WiFi USB sticks. Check this URL:

Guys I want to buy a portable media player and confused between the archos 7 (320 gb) and the new archos 5 (500gb).
I personally like the archos 5 as I thin the processor is a little quicker than the 7 , more gb for lesser price.
What are the advantages of the archos 7 other than the big screen and the battery life.

Can someone from Pune tell me where I can buy the WD HD media player? I have not been able to get it in Landmark/Croma/Staples.
Also, Croma has a Iomega player with a 1 TB drive built in, for about Rs 12 k. It has HDMI 1080p outputs, and is internet ready.
Would that be a better buy than the WD player?

Try at
A V Xellence
19/21 Akshay Complex, Near Madhuban Hotel,
Dhole Patil Road, Pune - 411001

On the other hand, why not look at xtreamer? (Xtreamer.Net - Home) I bought it recently. It is great with 42" panni plasma. Mostly I use SD content from shared location on desktop and YouTube. BTW, from them I bought 2 USB WLAN and xtreamer Sidewinder too.

Last I checked with WD, the WD TV Live model (the one with network connectivity) was still to land in India. Might have landed now. Anyways, I went ahead and bought mine from 20north and was delivered in a week. It cost me around 7k. Have had it for around 5 months. Works well, especially with custom firmware

Thanks, I will try there.
Does X streamer work the same way, in terms of the 1080p output? Also, I am not sure of the point in taking the internet enabled versions - I will not take a cable to the device and I am not sure how well the wifi will support it. I am looking to just play portable HDD content on the HDTV.
