I guess I should just replace the ageing MAcbook Pro and keep the iPad pro when traveling for portability.
Or you could try an SSD upgrade for your MacBook Pro (assuming it still runs on hard disk). Could breathe in some new life into the old guy. The battery would still be an issue though and replacing it doesn't appear to be an easy task.

I did the SSD swap 3 years ago to Samsung 500gb 850. Along with that ram upgrade to 8gb.

Getting battery problems this year and the fan seems to kick in, when watching YouTube videos more often than before.

Have also started using an external monitor and sometimes the video to the monitor goes blank and I need to resync it.

Before any catastrophic failure thinking of replacing it.

I don't want the touch bar MacBook at all since I see no use for it. Only choice is last year's MacBook pro with 7th gen CPU for a lakhs.

Oh. ok then I guess it makes sense to just dispose of it since it's showing signs of trouble and all sensible upgrades are already done.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

My Nvidia shield is showing its age and just get less than 4hrs of screen time [on battery saver mode] while watching movies. Was hoping for the huawei mediapad 5 8" beauty to be launched here but don't see that happening.

So might just buy the 10.5" new samsung tab a. The slim bezels help reduce the overall size a bit but still feels humongous compared to my tiny 8" shield tab

Sammy claims 14hrs of video playback and has fast charging as well. So my movie watching should not really suffer [long train journeys]

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Need some advice on Pros and Cons of the Amazon Fire HD 10. At the price point it seems to be a good device providing a 10.1 inch display. I have a relative returning from the USA this month end and thinking if I should go for it.

Usage would be primarily Music, Videos and general browsing. I would surely need Google Apps (YoutTube and Chrome) - I have read articles that the Google Play can be loaded on even thought its not there by default...and hence thinking that is not a limitation...

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Did not hear any feedback but I went ahead and purchased the Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet via my relative who was returning from the USA. At $189.99, its a great value for money - one gets 1080 P display that is superior to the ones offered by Lenovo/Huawei in similar price bands.

While the Google Playstore does not come built-in, it was fairly easy to install the required APKs manually and I installed YouTube, Maps and Chrome. Amazon Prime Video and Amazon App are all pre-installed.

Overall a great tablet for the price

Here you go: How to Install Google Playstore on Amazon Fire HD Tablets
The instructions provided work like a charm.

I even installed Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams recently on the Tablet and I am able to use it for my Office calls as well where I am not a presenter.

Google and Amazon seem to be patching up as well to some extent: URL

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

I got the Huawei Mediapad M5 8.4" model to replace my Nvidia Shield K1 Tab.

It's a joy. Light, bigger screen thanks to slim bezels, good battery while watching movies [my primary purpose].

Need a tablet for my mom for playing solitaire and candy crush within 15k. Size should be 10 inch atleast just in case my son wants to use it for his online school classes. Any recommendations.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

I am looking for an Android Tablet with the following requirements:

- budget of ~10-15K INR (price is slightly flexible)
- primary use is attending online classes (through MS Teams) by kids
- screen size should be atleast 10" (I feel)
- good battery life is a must

Any suggestion?

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

is there a good .epub reader that can sync across the devices and has comparable ease of use like the Kindle?

I have a bunch of books in .epub format and I read on different device at differnt times of the day and really need something that can sync.

Someone asked me to suggest a tablet below/ around the 12K INR price point and I came here looking for answers.

This is for the school kid for attending online classes.

How are others doing this?

You can convert .epub to .mobi very very easily using Calibre and then read on Kindle device or app.
