for the long post.
Hi,

I have been driving a Santro Xing from Jan 2004 onwards. There has never been any problem with the car and i have been consistently getting mileage of 16.5 to 17.3 Kmpl on long drives with the AC on. (this is in answer to your question number 3) and in city i get a mileage of 12-13.5 KMPL.

I think you should go for the new Santro i10, as its a good buy.

Between WagonR and Zen Estilo the build quality is better in WagonR. Estilo (my neighbour has one) has more body roll than WagonR and does not have the pickup of WagonR. WagonR after facelift is more value for money compared to Estilo. Both anway have the same engine. Estilo has been tuned for better mileage than WagonR thats the difference apart from the interior Ergonomics. Both have a rubbery and uninspiring gear shift.

I personally feel that you can go in for a second hand Alto or Wagon R or Santro for that matter as car value depreciates quickly especially the first 2-3 years. Once you are quite adept at driving then you can go in for a newer car. Dont put too much money on car.

Regards,

I faced the same issue about which car to choose. Finally decided on Wagon R primarily because of the Maruti brand and the fact that we got a good price for it.

The latest report is that I get a mileage of 17+ on highway and city driving @14.Unlike most reports I have read, I have not faced any issues with the gear. My wife drove it too and is quite happy with the gear shift.

The power steering is really great and the car didnt have any problems while climbing some really steep slopes in Coorg. Also to be mentioned is the space. We recently bought a dining table in it..ofcourse it was all dismantled... but stilll

Your primary needs looks like space, comfort, hasslefree car within 4.4 budget.

I think Getz Prime 1.1 is best option for you.
At the same time, visit showroom and have a look at i10.
Only other which meets your need may be Indica.

These are the best buys considering your need.

Cheers

I second Anju, either a Getz Prime 1.1 or Indica Xeta would fit your bill perfectly

Suggest me a car within 4/4.5 lacs

Hi,

I am new in this business and need your guidance.

My req are

1. Shortlisted cars are Wagon-R, Zen-Estilo, Santro Xing

2. Price range cango upto 4.5 lacs on road. so definitely anything with ex showroom 4.2 is ok.

3. Maintenance and After Sales Service should be hassle free and cheap.

4. Avg distance travelled would be around 1000 km at max

5. 80% of the distance it would be city driving in Kolkata which is very very congested.

6. Specific req is fuel economy and ride comfort and boot space.

7.Chauffer driven most of the times as I want to use this car for my kid's school going purpose.

8. I want to keep this car atleast for a 5 years period.

Would you please suggest me something from your experience. How advisable to take a car in december with big discount but loosing in resale front because of 2007 make?

Kshil,

will suggest you to go for Swith Lxi,, if not look at Wagon R ,, Stick to Maruti product only for better perfomance and maintenance

Swift Lxi can suit your needs better than your shortlist but for other goodies like power windows, left side RVM, etc., but it is more safer than any of the cars listed.

WagonR~Santro~Estilo

Santro has lowest turning radius. Ease of driving:
Santro>WagonR~Estilo

Fuel economy is roughly same for all three. Regarding boot space:
WagonR>Santro>Estilo

Ride quality:
WagonR>Estilo>Santro.
Santro is known for its bumpy rear ride.

Hi DCEite,

Thanks for so much to the point and crisp answers. Only time would tell how much value for money the Wagon-R would be, but I am pretty sure, I am getting tremendous value without any money by just being a proud member of this great community.

Would update once I finally buy it.

Need a car with a budget of 3.25L

Hi friends,

My friend wants to buy a new car. His budget is 3 to 3.25 lacs (50 to 70k down payment and an emi of around 5 to 5.5k)

1. He doesn't want a Maruti 800 or an alto.
2. Car with A/C and Power Steering needed.

Only Indica Xeta GLS fits into his Budget.

Can you suggest any other model.

I don't think there is any other car in that price range with A/C and PS. Only if he can stretch till 4lacs, he has some good options.

But IMO, alto is a more reliable and proven car than a XETA

I think you can get a 2007 Santro/Wagon R for that amount. In Delhi, dealers are advertising 50k discounts.

city or highway ? the indica feels home on the highway, while the alto is a joy to dodge city traffic. The santro is a bit of a compromise. a little bit of either
