Roughly comes 5,500.00 per year for owning the car and maintenance is extra.

Bought Figo in 2010 May and have done 25K till now. Initially was planning to buy Swift and have it for 7 years. Will sell Figo after completing 5 or 6 years max as the resale value for Ford is not much when compared with Swift.

Generally affordability, Depreciation benefits, very poor performance of the present vehicle influence the life of your present car(s).

Here's a list of the cars we have had till now

1. Premier Padmini
   Purchased in 1986, sold off in 1997 - 80K kilometers. Reason - body started rusting even though engine was fantastic.
2. Maruti 800
   Purchased in 1997 as a stop gap for the loss of the Padmini, sold off in 2000 Dec - 15K kilometers only.
3. Hyundai Santro
   Purchased in Jan 2001, sold off in 2010 - Reason - My mother had a fracture in her leg, which prevented her from driving the car anymore.
4. Honda City Type Z
   Purchased in June 2002, still with us. Only 14k kms done so far
5. Nissan Micra
   Purchased in July 2010, still with us. Some 6.5k odd kms done so far.

I never bought a car, drove whatever Father bought:-
AS far as I remember:
(1) He bought in 1995 ,carb. Esteem . Sold it Year 2007.Cumulative Mileage: 150k KM, Around 110k KM , Engine O/H Job done by company. Was'nt impressed by the Job done by company, therefore winthin 20k of O/H, sold it.
(2) He bought in 2000, Tata Indica DLE. Sold it Year 2008. Primary driven by my younger brother and me. Approx 350k KM, went through Engine O/H 2wice, and dont know how many times Suspension, brake, O/h ..Body retrofitting job....etc. Me , my younger, and our prefered mechanic did wonders with that car. All its manufacturing niggles were ironed out!!

(3) He bought in 2003, a second hand 14k KM driven: Opel ASTRA club. Primary driven by my Father and me.Driven uptil 140k KM I really loved this car, beautiful ride and handling. Parts scarcity, and in year 2011, was cropping up with issues every 5to 10k and was becomming too difficult to maintain. Sold it Year 2011 at throw-away price.. I still feel nostalgic about it!

A Bajaj Boxer CT 2000 MODEL - Still up and running, being driven on highways only,has taught me balancing in different terrains for safety, when those fast trucks/buses literally pushed me down the highway.
A Hero Honda CD-Dawn 2003- Have been used in Mumbai, taught me on maintaining a safe speed and dodging in Mumbai's traffic/signals to gain mileage and time efficiency.

A Bajaj Pulsar 220 S 2010 Model- performance enhanced, has given me wings on highways, used in Mumbai and Goa with 6 ups and downs between these two places, has been to Pune, Solapur, Nashik/Shirdi, Aurangabad, Ratnagiri, Latur and Kolhapur. ( Would love to discuss more on this bike in relevent threads soon)
My Love-
Maruti Wagon R Vxi 2002- This car has grown me up by a feet, have been driven all around Mumbai, Goa, Konkan and Marathwada. This car allowed me execute all the knowledge and experience which I had learned as a helper from this 55 year old driver who had around 30 years of experience (1965- 1998s)( he used to communicate with all the vehicles on the highway through headlights, horns, indicators, rumaals, stones, raw egg filled balloons and bamboo sticks accordingly for respect and commercial grudges )
I have some awesome tips and tricks to be used when you are on Highways for utmost safety, i will share them gradually @ teambhp. I am looking at creating a good highway culture through some good set of communications which allow crossings and overtakes in the best royal manners.
