It was badged as POLO. And as I said in my post it was left hand drive.

Vento is indeed the Polo sedan in other countries. Must be a facelift or with additional changes in the Vento. Too early to speculate without any pics or suggestive changes.

If it is an LHD, they probably would be testing it for Middle East and Africa. They are already exporting the RHD version of the Vento to SA and Malaysia.

The launch of Polo 1.4/1.5 TDI could be dealayed due to the unstable policy framework.

Could the sixth genetaion Polo 1.5 TDI for India in 2014?

The 2014 Volkswagen Polo is sharper than the current model and will be powered by 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engines.

Pictures of Volkswagen's Polo wearing GT and TDI badging, confirming a Diesel hot hatch have been posted on auto website oncars.in. The badging and "Estrada” 15" alloy wheels (as seen on the Petrol GT TSI), indicate that this Polo comes with a Diesel engine. The car was spotted along with a Vento and a Rapid. The Polo GT TDI is likely to come with the 1.6L Diesel from the Vento and Rapid. The Polo GT TDI will be quick too, since it is 90 Kg lighter than the Vento. VW ran its Polo R Cup with a 1.6L Diesel that made 129 BHP (104 BHP in stock form) for 2 seasons in 2010 and 2012. The rest of the kit for the interiors and exteriors are likely to remain the same.

It will be interesting to see how Volkswagen prices the Polo GT TDI. The Polo 1.2L GT TSI is already stratospherically priced approaching almost Rs 10 Lakh (OTR) in cities like Bangalore.

I think eventually VW will replace the 1.2 tdi with the 1.5 and the GT TDI will be having the 1.6 .
Anyway this is great news .

But still no concrete plans for launch or any word from VW about when can we expect this. It sure looks great on paper as of now. I am in the market for a new car and would not mind waiting for the 1.6 TDI Polo if its coming in the near future. This one would surely be a crazy car to drive.

I believe it can be priced same as the GT TSI, at around Rs. 8 lacs ex showroom.

For one, it will have the 5 speed manual transmission from the vento/polo TDI. This should be much cheaper to manufacture. Also, the import content will be lower since it is essentially the Vento TDI minus the boot, an existing bread and butter volume model for VW India. It will not get the excise break that the Polo GT TSI enjoys, but he above factors should make up for that.

VW should have launched it day 1, this was a no-brainer, considering they have been essentially making this car every day for last 2 years in the form of Vento TDI.

Dear VW, we don't need DSG or Automatic gearboxes.

From day one of Polo launch, we only want 1.2 TSi & 1.5/1.6 TDi engines in Polo with Manual gearboxes at acceptable prices for this segment.
Rest success is already determined for their cars.

This is excellent news.

I agree with 84.monsoon. The 1.6 GTD MT could be priced on par or more than the GT TSI due to the excise duty structure. But then, it has a lot going for it. Super torquey engine, good F.E. and no reliability concerns like the DSG. Hope VW really does something about the NVH and the hard clutch though!

The headline for 2013 does seem to be "Return of the hot hatch". The Vento's 1.6 TDI is very torquey and in a car 90 kgs lighter, it will be phenomenal! And one would have to try very hard to get poor FE figures from this engine.

Pricing should be in the neighborhood of the GT TSI, as the 1.6 TDI's higher excise bracket should be offset by the cost of TSI's 7-speed DSG.
