Surely these mega giant Companies have a good reason for not brining the AT to the Indian customer sooner. Duster has had a similar issue. The Duster has AT versions in many other countries, but they never got it to India.

Mahindra may have a similar reason (do not know what it is, but we can speculate) for not getting the AT to India earlier.

For years the cartel of automotive manufacturers were forcing customers interested in Automatics to either go in for Petrol vehicles, or premium (Audi, BMW,MERC) vehicles.
Later when M&M and Hyundai got AT in reasonably priced diesels, they were either outdated vehicles a decade past introduction, or moronic boxes which did not offer a comfortable drive.
The manufacturers refused to believe that heavy users with 100+ km/day drive are the ones most interested in Automatics, and for obvious reasons they will never buy Petrols. Many such users the important features are comfortable seating, effecient AT gearbox, decent Ac and safety features like ABS and Airbags. They are least interested in ICE setup, lounge lighting, auto folding ORVM etc.
Later VW introduced the TDI DSG in Vento followed by Scoda showed that diesel AT's are having long wating periods while Manuals are being discounted. The recent entrant Creta showed an even wider margin, with the waiting for AT close to 6 months, while manuals except for SX(o) available within a month.
The way S cross had to not only cut price but also offer discounts on the top end vehicles due to lack of AT forced M&M to hurry up with the AT.

I'm really interested to know whether they are adding AISIN 6-speed or the old Bosch from Scorpio. I'm willing to buy W8 AT if it is indeed the AISIN box. This will be a good competition to Creta AT.

The Mahindra XUV500 Automatic variant has been launched finally. Priced at INR 15.53 lakh (ex-showroom), the new variant will take on the Hyundai Creta 1.6 diesel automatic which has been enjoying strong response since launch.

The XUV500’s automatic gearbox is the same 6-speed unit sourced from Aisin. The Scorpio’s 6-speeder autobox is a longitudinally mounted unit sourced from the Australian transmission specialist Drive Systems International (DSI), the auto box is available in both FWD and AWD configurations. The 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine continues to dish out 140 bhp and 330 Nm of torque.

The equipment level of the automatic variant correspond to the respective W8, and W10 trims on offer currently. Yes, XUV500 automatic will be on offer with two trims.

This means, you get 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice commands, static bending lamps, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, MicroHybrid (Start-Stop technology), Tyre-Tronics, automatic headlamps and wipers, front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, alloy wheels, foglamps, automatic climate control, and electrically foldable and adjustable wing mirrors along with the XUV500 automatic.

Boy! That's a big load of features! Does it miss anything? Now all I am waiting for is to see if Innova introduces automatic in the top variants. If not, I think I will be booking the automatic W10 AWD immediately after.

The prices for the XUV Automatic start at Rs 15.53 lakh for the front-wheel drive W8 model and top off at Rs 17.36 lakh for the all-wheel drive W10 model, making the Automatic about Rs 1 lakh more expensive than comparable manual versions. The Automatic’s ARAI-tested fuel economy of 13.85kpl is also down on the manual version’s 16kpl.

As per someone's opinion earlier on in this thread, the difference between MT and AT was expected to be 50 k INR. However, as stated above it looks like the difference is 100k INR.

I do not know if the differences mentioned are for OTR or not! However, my judgement says that the difference in OTR could be 20~25% more.

I may have to wait for a few months before taking a call.
I would not like to compromise and take W8.

Anyway, time will tell ..

Cardekho has updated the XUV500 info - including prices - and it is showing a difference of only 20k INR for equivalent models! That would be just fantastic - if true!!
Funny - the model details are shown as 'Manual'!

Hmm. Start Stop button has disappeared and the good old key slot is back.
