Re: Crossovers (CUV) - The new trend worldwide

Has the slump begun for the SUV market in India OR is it a temporary phase owing to the upcoming emission norm?

Quote:
After 5 years of growth, SUV sales hit a bump.
Quote:
In 2013-14, only 1-in-5 passenger vehicles sold in India was a utility vehicle. By 2016-17, their share had increased to 1-in-4. And last fiscal, it peaked at 28%. However, figures for the April-January period of this financial year show their share is down to 27.2%

In February, however, total UV (including SUV and MPV) wholesales rebounded on the back of aggressive billing by companies before the year-end and good performance by the MPV segment
Quote:
In the mid-sized segment (Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, etc), sales fell 19% to 10,105 units from 12,618 in the period. Sales of medium premium SUVs (Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, etc) were down 9%, to 10,580 units from 11,656 units

Just a reflection of the market, I believe!

Sales are down across the entire industry, even two wheeler sales have taken a hit since the past quarter.

Re: Crossovers (CUV) - The new trend worldwide

The global shift towards CUVs challenges one of our main assumptions that 'bad Indian roads' have necessitated the shift towards higher GC vehicles/hatches on stilts to offer a more practical solution to the pothole problem. But the fact that the trend is similar across even developed countries with largely better roads points at a different truth for the glamour that these vehicles have come to enjoy.

CUV's take priority over Sedans at Toyota.

Quote:
Toyota Motor Corp. has abandoned plans to build Corolla sedans at a new joint assembly plant it is building in cooperation with Mazda in Huntsville, Ala., and instead will build an as-yet-unannounced crossover there.

In an announcement , Toyota said the shift "is in response to changing market demands and a growing consumer appetite for light trucks

Re: Crossovers (CUV) - The new trend worldwide

SUVs posted a new record market share in Europe of 40%. ( Oct-19)

A total of 484,400 units were sold in October. This is partly because of VW Group’s offensive, as its SUVs counted for 1 in 10 of all the cars sold.

Expect a similar story when VW goes offensive on EV's.

Re: Crossovers (CUV) - The new trend worldwide

I think one of the major reason for moving to CSUV or crossover is that, for sedans to look elegant they need proper proportions. As we can see none of the Compact sedans look good.
With CSUV one can get similar level of space and comfort in a reduced footprint and decent size boot. Also the flexibility with rear seats folded down is better.

As surprising it may sound, XUV 500 is smaller (about 100mm) in length than Civic but offers much more space and comfort. Added advantage is the better seating position.

I think the reason is more than just glamour, there is practicality as well. Though each market has it unique reason for crossover.

Re: Crossovers (CUV) - The new trend worldwide

The demand for S/CUV market seems to have more UV's line up in most manufacturer's line-up!

Quote:
Fiat is the only big brand in Europe that has only one SUV in its lineup. This is a big part of the reason why Fiat struggles. The SUV market is the only driver of growth in Europe, North America, China and even in some developing markets like South America and India.

Re: Crossovers (CUV) - The new trend worldwide

SUVs and crossovers continue to be in demand. June's fastest-selling cars were two popular SUVs.

Full-size SUVs have been in high demand since the beginning of the year, and that trend has continued.
