Corolla carries a 1.8L engine. For comparison, Jetta makes 122PS from a 1.4 TSi.

If it comes, the Evo T-Jet will truly be a hot, hot hatch.

Relevant to our market and particularly the premium hatchback segment - The nearest competitor is the Volkswagen GT TSi that makes a 105ps. I don't really understand how a 135ps or even a 113ps tune is 'too less'.

If you talking purely about turbocharging capability of FIAT- then 1.4 TJet produces upto 180ps in different states of tune. The 155 might even come to our market as the Punto Abarth.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Would it not have been better to mate such a powerful engine with at least 6 gears. In my opinion that would have improved the overall dynamics.

I could be wrong in my assumption, could some one elaborate.

Apparently the product is undergoing certification and can be launched only later this year.

Wow. Just wow. If this car is made available soon, it will be perfect upgrade for our 5 year old 30k kms run Punto 1.2 Active !

The cheery on the cake is the 4 wheel disk brake. The Punto certainly has more capabilities than the current crop of engines. This tjet will perfectly complement the good looks of the car.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Wow this is some interesting news , I thought punto abarth would be getting the 135bhp tune, would they plonk it with the evo? or is it just for testing purpose? , what about the pricing? it has to be under ten lakhs to sell in 3 digit figures. what effect will this have on the Linea Tjet ?
fingers crossed and waiting.

Sales are not that high to have a cross impact. Add to it, there would be enough takers for the sedan as there would be for the hatch. But yes, the Punto T-Jet is indeed a very very fantastic offer! Would love to see a 6-speed gearbox though!

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

If fiat sold as many cars as the number of posts on the threads regarding its cars, it would be a winner. The issue that a fiat car does not find a place in the average utility curve of a normal indian car buyer - who wants bling, fuel efficiency, gadgets that give cheap thrills like touch screen, seat movement lever, sun roof (which is never used anyway) and cannot understand things like ride/handling/braking etc.

The only way to make this work is to make fiat and t-jet a cult, niche brand like royal enfield/octavia RS

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

And finally...my prayers have been answered. Hope Fiat sorts out the vague gearbox and long/weird clutch. This is surely going to replace my Grand i10, no ifs and buts - the only question now remains is - when? At an on-road Mumbai price of Rs. 9-9.50 lakhs, this will be a sweet deal.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Finally some of our prayers are being answered. Time to start saving as well !

However, I personally feel that the upcoming T-Jet should be priced attractively to wean people off from the TSi. People who are going to buy hot hatches are pretty aware of each model on offer and hence Fiat should ensure they get the pricing correct. Anything below 8.5-9 Lakhs on-road should be a great price.

I request everyone not to jinx this please! Usually if Fiat sees this much enthusiasm, they would probably not bring it to market.
-

On a serious note, I honestly think that they wouldn't let the Punto have the 135 hp engine with the Linea getting 113 hp. Either they have to upgrade the Linea T Jet to 135 hp or bring this down to 113 hp.

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Fiat Punto T-Jet spied.

T-Jet-equipped Punto Evo and Avventura are likely to be called Punto Evo Abarth and Avventura Abarth when they hit showrooms around Diwali this year.

Fiat Punto T-Jet likely to come with a 135bhp motor and four wheel disc brakes.

Quote:
The Punto T-Jet will come with a 135bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Punto Evo's engine uses a different turbo-charger than the Linea T-Jet and hence will get 135bhp instead of Linea's 113bhp. This same engine is expected to be seen under the hood of the Avventura as well. Also, on offer exclusively on the T-Jet versions will be four wheel disc brakes and 16-inch alloys

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

I just bought it's predecessor (if i could say that ) palio S10 and eagerly waiting for this one too. I really wish they address the gearbox issue.

Let's wait and watch !

Re: Scoop - Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet coming up!

Interesting find. Most assumptions by fellow bhpians are going to be true when the TJet plonked 135hp Punto & Avventura hit the streets. If you ask me what they are, Well I can't share. Will leave that to your imagination.
Hope people accept this variant and help FIAT smile with decent sales figures.

The absence of an intercooler results in warmer charge air being fed to the engine after the turbo compresses it, resulting in a lower power gain than a turbo engine that has an intercooler. Also, OT, but haven't Corolla's usually had 1.8L engines?
The Indian Linea TJet has always had an intercooler. You may find pictures in the TJet thread.

I was not impressed by the output of VAG 1.2 TSI or 1.5 1.6 TDI engines. Measly 105BHP when the competitors have better performing engines with more horses, say 1L ecoboost or 1.6 hyundai crdi. But it's just very recently that I came to realise that it's because VAG quotes wheel horse power instead of at the crank and it's usually underrated as well. Now these figures look good.
