re: Scoop! Toyota Vios caught testing in Bangalore Edit: it's the Yaris Ativ

Looking at the ORVMs on Etios

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ml#post3641471

I think they are identical in shape to the Vios. So all Toyota have to do is just get rest of the car to India

re: Scoop! Toyota Vios caught testing in Bangalore Edit: it's the Yaris Ativ

Honestly, I believe toyota has taken their own sweet time to bring Vios and Yaris to India.

Instead of spending on R&D for the Etios, they should have setup manufacturing lines for the Vios and Yaris and started selling it a long time back.

Would love to see the 1NR-FE petrol engine with the Vios with VVT-i and Start-stop tech. (as something new for the segment)

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
A 1.5 (1496 cc) variant of the NR series engine. First introduced for the third generation Toyota Vios.

Technical specifications of the engine:

Displacement: 1496 cc
Max. Output: 79 kW (107 PS) at 6000 rpm
Max. Torque: 140 N·m (103 lbf·ft) at 4200 rpm
Don't think we have a choice with the diesel engine. I just hope Toyota put the 87 bhp verison 1ND-TV.

I'm pretty sure this is the car that'll make Honda and Maruti sweat.

That's most likely a Yaris. The i20 and Polo better watch out.

Double Whammy for other manufacturers.

Yes, me too got a glimpse of it(rear view) at the Electronics City Junction. Couldn't manage a picture though. Was heavily camouflaged. Looked slightly tall boy.

re: Scoop! Toyota Vios caught testing in Bangalore Edit: it's the Yaris Ativ

While my visit to Kuala Lumpur, I saw this car there. I really thought why does Toyota does not launch this in India. Its a very good looking car and I felt that it could do well in India. Thankfully they are now launching it here. Should take the fight to City and probably blow the final blow to VWs coffin, atleast in this segment. That should push VW to hopefully think about their servicing practises.

Rachit

Excellent scoop, the Yaris, Vios and the Avanza will complete the Toyota line up in India! Its funny that the company wishes to remain oblivious to the fan following that it enjoys in India!

I wish they price it right, so I can trade in my Liva for Yaris/Vios. Also hope they don't do cheap cost cutting measures like in the Etios twins.

I drove the Vios for 1000+ kms a couple of years back on a trip to Thailand. It was an Avis rental with 90k odd on the odo with a hard clutch and the gearshift giving my biceps a nice workout.

The car otherwise was a superb one and felt solidly built and oodles of space. The petrol engine was also sweet and high revving. Me thinks would be a real contender to the City in India

Good to see a Toyota product will be going head on with Honda (City) here

Will be a good replacement for my Renault Scala when launched

They really need to upgrade the diesel engine and leave the 1.4 at some point in time. Else it can be an another boomerang.

Here is pic of the interior from another web site. Looks much better than the Etios.

The 90hp tune that does duty in the Corolla won't feel too outdated in the Vios, considering the 1.3 DDiS in Ciaz and 1.5 iDTec in City both produce similar figures. City produces more BHP but has weak throttle response. God bless Toyota if they plan to retain the 68bhp tune of the Etios though!

The major weakness here is the market differentiation between Vios and Corolla. Corolla sales might take a small hit considering the same Diesel engine does duty there as well. IMO- they need a better diesel ASAP for the Corolla - before Vios hits the market.

Wow ! They are testing the Vios finally !
There can be no good reason as to why they never launched the previous generation Vios in India and no reason why they've taken 2 years to launch the current generation in India. This is the volume car Toyota needs !!
The Etios is a slap on India's face and a constant reminder of how Toyota feels about India/Indians.

I wouldn't be too optimistic of the Vios launch in India until TKM actually announces it. I still remember the Yaris being tested in India back in 2008, and what we got was the Liva in 2011

Care to elaborate what does weak throttle response means.

My point was that the torque levels of the three engines remain similar if the Vios comes with the 90hp tune from the Corolla. 205 NM for Vios, 200 NM for both City and Ciaz.

All the three develop similar power as well, with the City having a 10ps advantage. However- it is tuned for City driving and doesn't feel eager once revved or when the car is loaded. So all three cars will have an even platform when it comes to engines and the 1.4 D4D might not be a big disadvantage for the Vios.

Would be going OT if I elaborate further. Please go through ownership reports like the below.

Have a feeling that the new 2.0 diesel talked about in the new Innova thread might get into the Corolla after it is launched in the new Innova. The 1.4 being solely for Etios (if it is still sold) and 1.4 remapped for Vios (if it is launched).

Would distinguish between different segments and make customer's decision a little easier. It should have been done ages ago, but it is Toyota and they have such a strong following that they can choose to wait
