Same pictures shared here. I doubt the Harrier and the 45x will have exactly similar interiors.

I mean both have similar layout for interiors, not similar interiors. Both pics have differences. Eg. Look at the doors.

Another snap from ACI, good proportion and stance overall...those alloys look great - in a different class I feel...must be the top end version.

Confirms that the rear door handle moved to the quarter glass area like the new Swift? And does the bulge in the roof indicate any possibility of sunroof?

Spotted during a high altitude test in Ladakh by a Cartoq reader.

Interiors can be seen, revealing a telescopic steering.

From the interior pic, I don't see any space for what the whole car buying public wants these days - A GIANT TOUCH SCREEN ?

Maybe it will be the floating types like in Nexon or New Ecosport.

And what's that button just behind the gear lever ? Electric parking brake switch ?

The slot above the AC vents is most probably for the floating touchscreen. Below the AC vents, there are blank holes which will most probably host the dials and switches for ICE, similar to Nexon.

I am guessing this car will come with a four-cylinder version of the 1.2L Revotron doing duty in the Tiago/Tigor. If all goes well, there may even be a JTP version with same engine plus turbo. Any clue on when this can be realistically expected in showrooms? I wonder if it would be worthwhile to wait for this than going for Tiago JTP (if and when it comes)!!

Yes, it will be the floating type seen on the Nexon and already spotted in the previous pages on test mules of X451. Maybe very similar in size to the one seen in the Harrier.

Regarding this particular car, it seems to resemble the base Nexon's infotainment system, without the floating screen. A tiny display is built into the groove.

@ksameer1234, the X451 is slated to be launched by festive season in 2019, but this has not been corroborated with any official announcement from TML. JTP Tiago will most probably be here by this year end.

Cheers,
Uday

A look at the Front IP ultrasonic welding SPM (Special Purpose Machine) automation system, developed by Shallwin Power Systems, which will be used for the upcoming x451 project. Claimed to be India's first.

Any idea what part is that? For a moment, I thought it's the center console but not sure.

This is the instrument panel / dashboard skeleton. Several plastic panels will be assembled on top of it before it goes into the vehicle.

Ultrasonic welding SPM is pretty standard solution in automotive plastic work. Definitely not the first in India.

However, the instrument panel skeleton is usually a single piece moulding. Maybe TML for some reasons has made it in several pieces that need to be joined with ultrasonic welding. Pretty standard stuff.

Isn't the instrument panel skeleton a plastic / fibre piece? Why do we need to 'weld' it than rivet it?

This should be so some of the parts will be shared with another model and helps in parts sharing? May be the design of the top portion may be different, but same for the design beneath. That way, different models will not have the same design, but enough differentiation. If it's a single mould, the design will remain same. If it's so, I like it.

But will these panels lead to rattles? I read Logan / Verito's panels were single mould to avoid rattling.

Riveting adds to weight. Plastic simply melts and fuses together. Also for an assembly, metal to plastic bonding is kept to a minimum as any vibration will cause metal (harder) to cut the plastic (way softer). TML may have gone the welding route due to complex profile of the part that may be difficult to obtain in a single mould.

It is virtually impossible to create enough differentiation with the same IP skeleton, if the vehicles are completely different. If 2 bodystyles are used on the same platform, a little bit of differentiation may be possible, but the looks of the IP will remain largely the same.

IP is a critical part in vehicle testing. Not just for rattling, for crash compliance as well. IP design is one of the most complex parts of vehicle engineering and easily takes upwards of 1.5 to 2 years!
