Well that way even the S-Cross costs betwwen 14-24 lakhs (spec to spec it is more expensive) if you consider UK pricing. The CR-V costs 22-35 lakhs (clearly a segment above the Vitara) Nearly everything costs more in the UK that is a largely known fact.

Considering the New Vitara with high import content (Engine, Twin clutch system, etc) it will be priced high and will slot (marketed)a few segments higher than S Cross!

If Maruti plans on importing the Suzuki twin clutch automatic and AWD system and Fiat 1.6 mjd, then sure it will be expensive. Do you really think they would do that to themselves to sell a product like the Vitara? That would be a suicidal move and I'm sure the company will either start local manufacture of the components or offer a 1.3 mjd to bring the cost down because at the end of the day, even they know that the Vitara has no right to be competing with products in the 18-22 lakh category.

Here is the summary,

Maruti's 'Vitara Brezza' ( <4m L, India specific) - DDiS 200 as diesel variant along with petrol offering.

New Vitara ( > 4 m L, international Model) - Only DDiS320, twin clutch automatic and AWD system ( Niche market)

IF they can price it right, it will be a worthy competitor to the Indian SUVs a.k.a Safari Storme, Scorpio, XUV 5OO. We know that the Vitara is a competent product, a VFM pricing will help slot it right in the sweet spot.

You can call me a Suzuki fan (not that affectionate to maruti) heck I thought the Kizashi was value for money even when it was launched. However I would never recommend the Vitara at 18-22 lakhs when there are far more capable SUVs in the same price bracket (our very own XUV for example) the Vitara offers far less space, boot space, refinement, and interior quality and thus will only be an alternative to the S-Cross for those captivated by SUVish stance of the likes of Creta

re: Suzuki Vitara spotted testing in India

If we compare petrol prices, the difference between comparable models of Ecosport and Vitara is 2 lakhs(£16,445 for Ecosport and £18,499 for Vitara) Vitara has more equipment as well so the difference is justified. And actually the base models of both start at around £14,000. If Maruti Suzuki think of bringing it in a segment to which it doesn't belong then obviously it'll fail. I have compared petrol engines because they have comparable power ( 120 bhp vs 123 bhp). The diesel engines are quite different though. But judging from the S-Cross, 1.6 is not the best proposition for Maruti Suzuki in its current imported form. I personally feel the best course is to bring the Vitara Brezza and then launch the Vitara S with the 1.4 boosterjet at say 14 lakhs as a halo product. This price is sans allgrip and automatic gearbox though. Any higher price would not be swallowed by customers for Vitara's size and interiors.

I checked out the Vitara (Escudo) in Tokyo Motor Show, and I was quite impressed. It is definitely a class above S-cross or Creta.

re: Suzuki Vitara spotted testing in India

Now Maruti imports a fresh lot of 1.6MJD's, what is in store?

1. Is the Compact SUV coming with in the 1.6 variant?
2. Is The New Vitara coming sooner than expected ( remote chance as a New Vitara is not yet imported to India)
3. Could the Ciaz face lift have this variant while transitioning to NEXA?
4. Any joint development with Fiat on the 1.5MJDd- was reported earlier Fiat was testing this engine.

Shortly we will know their plans and good for enthusiasts looking to lay hands on the 1.6MJD.

That must be against schedule orders for S Cross , they would have negotiated bulk deals with FIAT , now only if their R& D or someone else find some other vehicles to use this engine - perhaps Gypsy , CIAZ or even Baleno

I don't think it's going to be anything major and will be for S-Cross backlog orders. If you see, it's only 240 engines as compared to the thousands they imported earlier.

But if we see another lot in four digits being imported, then something is surely up and the questions you have posed can be analyzed further

India Bound Suzuki Vitara gets Sportier S Variant with 1.4L Boosterjet.
Quote:
The Vitara S debuts the second engine in the Suzuki’s BoosterJet turbo petrol clan, 1.0-liter BoosterJet was debuted by new Baleno hatchback!

Suzuki has introduced the new 1.4-liter BoosterJet engine with Vitara S in the UK. The vehicle will go on sale there from next month, January 2016. Besides the new engine, Vitara S is equipped with 17-inch Gloss black alloy wheels, unique grille design, satin silver door mirrors, LED headlamps with red projector covers, rear upper spoiler and black side body mouldings. For the interiors, the sporting theme continues with red stitching, red accents for air conditioning vent and instruments and aluminium alloy pedals.

Vitara is coming to India as the vehicle was spied recently in the country. Maruti Suzuki has probably imported it for displaying at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo. It is expected to be powered by the 1.6-liter DDiS320 diesel motor (Fiat 1.6-liter MultiJet), this engine is currently working in the S-Cross. While petrol could be the 1.6-liter M16A naturally aspirated motor as doing its duty in the UK model.
Quote:
Speaking about the 1.4-liter BoosterJet, the direct-injection turbocharged K14C - DITC 1373 cc motor chucks out 140 PS @ 5,500 rpm and a max torque of 220 Nm which starts building from 1,500 rpm and stays till 4000 rpm. The engine propels the Vitara S from standstill to 100 kmph in 10.2 seconds and tops out at 200 kmph. The S variant comes standard with the 6-speed manual while 6-speed automatic is optional. The EC fuel consumption stands at 52.3mpg for manual transmission model (nearly 18 kmpl).

re: Suzuki Vitara spotted testing in India

Maruti Suzuki to showcase the Vitara in Auto Expo 2016. Launch details not yet disclosed, expect to come in late 2016 / early 2017.

This will likely be a segment above S Cross in India and will be feature rich to command a premium price.

This will be the international seen New Vitara and do not confuse with the sub compact Vitara Brezza!

Quote:
Our sources confirm that MSI will re-introduce the popular Vitara brand in February 2016; however, the exact launch details about the SUV are yet to be confirmed. We expect that the SUV will debut at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, while the launch could take place by the end of next year or early 2017.

Suzuki Vitara S Likely to Debut in India at Auto Expo 2016 - India Launch not confirmed yet.

With the recent ban on diesels and diesels as a whole could face the heat, the Turboject Suzuki Vitara S could be launched in 2017.

While Vitrara Brezza (< 4m CUV) is likely to be retailed through regular Maruti dealers, the Vitara S mignt be through its Premium outlet Nexa.

The Vitara in the above post seems to have different front styling compared to the photos in the initial post. They do resemble the concept though. Is this the 2016 Vitara styling changes?

Court ruling aside, I don't think a petrol only SUV is going to set the charts on fire anytime in the near future. Maruti will have to provide a diesel option if they have any chance of doing at least half the numbers that a Fortuner does.

Drive on,
Shibu.
