re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

This has put me in a dilemma. I am looking for a new petrol hatchback around 6 lakhs and have almost finalized the Swift.

What should I do now? Get the current generation or wait for this one?

But in my opinion this version will not be launched by middle of next year. What should I do?

Expected to launch in second half of 2017 will be this Swift. If you are not in a hurry for a car purchase and particular with Swift and finicky on getting only a newer generation then only option is to wait.

Another option is check out the Ignis which is due this festive season . Could also fall in your budget and is of a the new platform of Suzuki.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

I personally like the new design. But the beat style rear door handles doesn't do much justice to the design. The jaguar type front is very good to look at and much more aggressive than the rear. The front end of the side profile looks better in comparison to that of the baleno's which I've felt like it was curved down too immediately. I would pick this one up with the boosterjet over a boosterjet baleno. For those who want proper legroom, headroom and a spacious comfortable car, it will have to be the baleno. For those looking for a hot looking hatch with superb handling and not in need of too much space, the Swift will be a great choice.

Amit, Why not the Baleno?

It is a better car, has a better snob value, loaded and much better interiors.
It has everything that Swift offers and more.

Plus, it is available now(with waiting periods though).

The new Gen Swift will not hot shores before 2017 Festive period.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

They changed the front of Baleno so it looks different from Swift but now they want Swift look like Renault Pulse, strange.

Nowadays all cars like Aspire, Figo, etc. have that flat front looking from the side profile but to me it will be prone to heavy repair bills even in case of minor accident.

I think we will have to wait till eternity for Swift RS (real one), Swift A/T, etc. Hope Maruti gives us all a surprise.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Reminded me of the Renault Pulse the moment I looked at the pics!

The side profile looks interesting - I hope they remove the door handles from window and place them at the regular place instead; rear passengers need that extra glass area.

And I hope the mild-hybrid technology is introduced in the K12B engines as well.

The liquid-flow design language of Baleno is carried forward to the new Swift as well - very much visible in the pic below

I test drove both Baleno and Swift and Swift was the one which put a smile to my face. Swift has a more weighty feel to it (can't be compared to Polo or Punto but better than Baleno) and I felt that the Swift was more planted on the road (my personal opinion) as well as better handling.

Baleno may have more features and it may be the current vogue but it is like Swift pulls the heart strings for me. And as somebody highlighted on T-Bhp itself - "If you don't park your car and look back to have a look, you have bought the wrong car".

I don't want to wait that long so most probably I'll go for this generation only. Thanks.

Also thanks Volkman for your input.

It don't know how much of it will be retained, I seriously doubt Maruti will go for those rear handles. The design is getting worse each passing generation. Here is one more picture, this time regular Swift front end.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

They are trying to do to Swift what they did to the iconic Zen earlier!!

Make it ugly with each "down"date.
It looks like a mish mash of many elements which is not cohesive to say the least.

Heck, even the Datsun Go rear seems like a cut, copy paste job on the Swift rear!!

+1 and this will promote Baleno. Consider the life of Old Zen in india, it started in 1993 and almost ended by 2006. In the same logic, Swift should reach end of life by 2019 and the new avatar(Baleno) will lead this segment from Maruti stable.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

As an owner of first two generations of Swift, my heart pains so see this design.

Like others have said, this seems to be a combination of Pulse, GO, etc. Quite Sad.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

As an owner of first gen Swift, I still consider it's the best looking Swift compared to second and the speculated 3rd gen. This just doesn't make a cut on the looks front. The interiors neither look anything great to me in the leaked pics. Hope this is something desirable that Maruti launches in the name of Swift.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

The front reminds me of the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander or somewhat like the Nissan 370Z.

Rear visibility and in-cabin space keeps taking a hit with these new-age designs. Beat like rear door handles will not sit well with many folks I guess.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Until when is the Swift going to look like a , well Swift. Isn't there a lot of swift in Maruti already? I mean the Dzire, Baleno, Astar (discontinued) all have serious resemblance to Swift in some way. Cars which do not resemble the swift from outside have Swift parts inside

Now I am not a Swift hater but, can we see something radically different now? That design has got really long in the tooth.
