The cousin of this car - Datsun Go+ was launched between Rs. 3.80 - 4.61 lakhs with three row seating and no one bought it. Renault stands a better chance if they try to share some values with the Duster, still the sales potential of such a small UV is very less in my opinion.

Hopefully they make the last row atleast useable on small trips, and not expect owners to cut off legs just to sit in the back row! A third row that can't be used just robs the car of its biggest USP its trying to project.

The new GO+ (2018) tops at almost 5.7 lacs. GO+ is a big big compromise on 3rd row seating and if Renault is able to address it, they do stand a chance to sell double or triple the volumes that GO+ manages.

Renault has confirmed that it will launch the RBC MPV in India in the second half of 2019. The entry-level people-carrier is likely to have a base price of around INR 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Spy media has revealed that the Renault RBC carries the company's signature V-shaped radiator grille, which is flanked by a pair of small headlamps that have a curvaceous shape. While the new model's first spy image revealed that the mid-section of the bumper has an LED light strip, pictures from subsequent sightings have shown an absence of this arrangement.

The new model will measure less than 4,000 mm in length, which should help it benefit from the lowest GST for petrol and diesel passenger vehicles. The low-cost MPV will be underpinned by the Kwid's CMF-A platform, not the earlier rumoured CMF-A+ platform.

The Renault RBC will not be powered by the Kwid's 1.0-litre SCe or Nissan's HR12DE 1.2-lite naturally aspirated motors. Instead, it will be propelled by a turbocharged version of the former. Transmission options will comprise 5-speed manual and automated manual.

It is worth noting that the CMF-A platform-based Kwid has scored an appalling 1-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. The Renault RBC, however, should perform much better owing to a stronger structure and a long list of standard safety features. To meet the more stringent safety norms that come into effect in the coming months, the new model will have to be equipped with a driver's side airbag, front seat-belt reminder (SBR), ABS with EBD and BA, and rear parking sensors as standard equipment.

Renault India is actively testing the soon to be launched 7 seater MPV. It is codenamed RBC’ as on date. This new MPV will be positioned on a CMF-A platform, on which the Kwid is also based. It will be smaller in size than Maruti Ertiga, as it is a sub 4 meter car.

Renault RBC, which is yet to be christened, is the second offering from the French automaker in the MPV segment, the first being the Renault Lodgy. Sadly, Lodgy failed, as sales are at about 50 units a month, making it the least selling MPV in the country.

Renault RBC is a low cost MPV. Being in the sub 4 meter segment will allow it to avail excise duty benefits. Reanult RBC will borrow design elements from global line-up of the company. The front fascia will be inspired of modern day Renault cars which are on sale globally.

It will sport short overhangs at the front and rear along with more pronounced wheel arches. Interiors will be spacious, considering it has a longer wheelbase. Generous space in third row will be a highlight, but this might compromise on boot space. Renault could offer increased safety features with the new RBC. These will include driver and co driver seat belt reminders, dual airbags, ABS, EBD and speed alert system, all of which will be offered as standard.

Renault RBC will most likely get both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol option could be 1.2 liter 4 cylinder mill, which is seen on board the Datsun Go. This engine delivers about 70 PS power. It will be mated with manual as well as AMT. Diesel engine could be borrowed from Duster, in the form of 1.5 liter generating 85 PS power.

No pricing details have been revealed as on date, but expect price range to be aggressive, thanks to heavy localisation. It could be priced from Rs 6-7 lakhs. Once launched, it will compete with the Maruti Ertiga.

On the front, under all the camouflage, there are optical groups that will connect directly to the grid and that will have LED lights for daytime driving. In short, its design will be greatly influenced by the Renault Kwid .

It is supported by the CMF-A platform and its length will not exceed 4 meters . During its development, Renault is placing special emphasis on the safety section so that it can obtain a good score in the crash tests. It will have front and side airbags.

Everything will revolve around a turbocharged petrol engine that can be matched to either a manual or an automatic gearbox, both five-speed.

In line with a previous report, Venkatram Mamillapalle, CEO and Managing Director, Renault India, has said in an interview with ET Auto that the company's next launch has been programmed to take place in July 2019. With this, it gets clear that the Renault RBC MPV isn't too far in the offing.

Speaking about Renault India's near-future plans, Venkatram said

"We also have new product launches in 2019 and 2020. Two new products will be launched, one in July (2019) and the other, the year after that."

The front fascia of the Renault RBC will be characterised with stylish headlamps with LED DRLs, a wide V-shaped upper grille, chrome trim on the bumper, a wide lower grille and squarish fog lamps. While the entry-level MPV won't look exactly like a stretched Kwid, there would be a definite connection between the aesthetics of the two models.

Underpinning the Renault RBC will be an updated version of the Kwid's CMF-A architecture. The new model will measure less than 4-metre in length, which will entitle it to benefit from the least GST levied on ICE-powered passenger cars. The sub-Lodgy MPV in the company's product portfolio is likely to become one of the most affordable 7-seater models around.

The Renault RBC will be powered by a more powerful version of the 1.0-litre SCe three-cylinder petrol engine that propels the Kwid and the Datsun redi-GO. This engine will employ a turbocharger to produce healthier performance figures and will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed automated manual transmission is likely to be introduced a few months down the line. A diesel engine option isn't on the cards.

Thanks to additional safety features and a reworked structure, the Renault RBC is likely to perform much better than the Renault Kwid, which has scored an appalling 1-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash tests.

This is probably the first test mule I have seen which already gets a roof carrier over it's roof rails in the final testing phase itself.

Waiting anxiously for this launch now. I loved the <4m MPV concept already (Datsun Go Plus, Tata Venture, Maruti Eeco, Maruti Omni) and now this I guess will be the most premium 5+2 seater in the sub-4m segment looking at the safety equipment in the previous sightings of test mules. Bring it on Renault...

Renault India will be announcing the official production name of its upcoming MPV codenamed RBC today. The French auto major is on a rough patch lately as the Kwid’s sales are not as consistent as it used to be. The small hatchback was a regular feature in the top ten monthly sales chart back in 2017 but it does not appear to be the case anymore due to the increase in competition.



The RBC has been caught on camera several times over the last few months while testing on public roads and it gives us a clear idea of what the MPV will feature both inside and out. The exterior will come with a signature front fascia Renault has been using in global markets for a long while as the V-shaped radiator grille is companied by LED DRLs, sleek headlamp assembly and LED tail lamps.

The large pillars and a tall roofline will aid in ample room for occupants. The seven-seater is based on the updated CMF-A platform of the Kwid and it will enable the brand to position the MPV aggressively in the market courtesy of high local content. It will be slotted below the Lodgy in the domestic lineup and could compete against the likes of Datsun Go Plus and some variants of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

As for the performance, the RBC MPV will be the powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that can also be found under the bonnet of the Kwid and it will be connected to either a five-speed manual transmission or an AMT in the high-spec variants. The chances of Renault introducing a diesel engine in the RBC are very minimal.

The powertrain could be BSVI ready upon arrival and it will go on sale in July 2019 ahead of the arrival of the facelifted Duster to meet the upcoming crash standards coming into effect from October 2019. The starting price of the RBC is expected to be around Rs. 5 lakh and it may go all the way up to Rs. 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom) undercutting the Ertiga in many scenarios.

It will feature dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder, high-speed alert and speed sensing auto door lock as standard. It could be christened either Triber, Helios, Kiger or Kiwak but we do not have concrete information yet. The interior will likely get a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reversing camera, etc.
