Hyundai ‘AURA’ Gearing-up to Triumph over Sedan Segment

Mumbai, November 14, 2019: Hyundai Motor India Ltd, India’s First Smart Mobility Solutions Provider and largest exporter since inception, today flagged-off All New Hyundai ‘AURA’, to test its strengths and capabilities in persistent Indian weather and driving conditions.

Gearing-up to triumph over the sedan segment, Hyundai ‘AURA’ will entrain its journey across India starting its endurance testing from Indian Peninsular Region, covering The Deserts to the Great Himalayas and the Eastern Coastlines.

The great drive across India is aimed to make this sedan an outperformer and appropriate for the diverse Indian conditions fulfilling every customer’s needs.

Good to see Hyundai concentrating and investing in the Compact Sedan segment. This segment was once hot among the automakers, around 2013-15 and everyone launched their own models but few tasted success. In the last 2-3 years, after the success of Compact and Mid-size SUV's, this segment has almost been forgotten with only New gen Dzire and Amaze being the new launches in last 2-3 years.

Hyundai Aura will get BS6-compliant versions of the 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine; manual and AMT options will be on offer.

All three engines are units we’re familiar with – there’s a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol, a 1.2-litre three-cylinder diesel, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol. In BS4 guise, the 1.2 petrol produces 83hp and 114Nm, the 1.2 diesel makes 75hp and 190Nm, so expect the BS6-compliant versions to have roughly the same power outputs. Going forward, tese upgraded engines will also be introduced on the updated Xcent, which will continue as an offering for commercial-use buyers.

The Aura’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol is also available with the Hyundai Venue but is expected to run in a lower state of tune in the compact sedan. Much like the sportier Grand i10 Nios (set to be launched early-2020), the Hyundai Aura turbo-petrol is likely to produce 100hp.

Also revealed are the gearbox options for each version of the Hyundai Aura. A 5-speed manual is available on the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel models, accompanied by the option of an automated manual transmission (AMT). The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol variant, however, will only come with a 5-speed manual.

Good news is that they are not abandoning the tiny Diesel engine unlike Toyota/ Tata or Maruti.

- This will enable them to capitalize on the huge void in the CAB segment created by Dzire and Etios

- Assuming this will make its way into i20 in a higher capacity disguise

- Will be interesting to see if potential Swift/ Baleno/ Tigor Diesel buyers shift camp to Hyundai ?

Good to see turbo petrol engines becoming a part of every model line up.
With the absence of strong German diesels in future, the enthusiasts can look towards these engines for some excitement.

Good to see that Hyundai is plonking the 1.0 T-GDI in the Aura. Ford missed a big trick here, it could have also offered the 1.0 EcoBoost when it had the chance.

Ford Figo does have an Automatic variant with 123PS/150Nm. Class leading figures IMO. It is a different matter that it did not sell.

As far as i remember, Ford powertrains always had class leading figures.

Hyundai Aura world premiere on December 19, 2019. Further details and price reveal in January 2020.

Hyundai will be taking the wraps off its new Aura compact sedan on December 19, 2019. Being a global model, the car will replace the Xcent compact sedan in some markets as well. The Aura is based on the Grand i10 Nios premium hatchback that made its India debut earlier this year and is already on sale in many countries.

Hyundai is expected to announce the pricing and further details of the Aura compact sedan in January 2020. The Aura’s key rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Tata Tigor and the Renault LBA compact sedan, which will launch late next year.

The Hyundai Xcent sedan will continue to be sold in India as the Xcent Prime and will be targeted at cab aggregators and fleet operators. It will be upgraded with BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines.

Those sketches are like CTC and the actual car would be like our in-hand salary.

It is an Xcent in new clothes. Nothing else. In fact now that the torque converter AT will be replaced by AMT, It is actually a downgrade from Xcent. But Hyundai will overwhelm us with all the connected car tech and other features from Venue. So none will talk about the missing torque converter. Amaze is the only proper automatic in the segment now. Aspire automatic seems like an extinct species which only exists in paper. I have never been able to spot one.
