Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki's Creta-rivalling SUV coming in 2020

I wish they bring the Corolla Cross(and the Suzuki A-Cross) in Hybrid Avatar. It may not be in Creta price range though.

I am very hopeful on these mid segment hybrids(unlike Camry) from Toyota, Suzuki and Honda in the petrol only Era post BS-6 as this arrangement will work for someone like me until EV/Battery technologies evolve for the masses(around 2030). Creta segment will be a sweet spot for a hybrid (City and above D22 hybrid)

5 star safety, good AT box and Fuel economy(with the hybrid) coupled with vast service network will be a killer deal.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki's Creta-rivalling SUV coming in 2020

As it is given the Creta rival will debut this year, some speculations and queries as below:

- Where are the test mules of the SUV's. Are they testing it at the in-house track at Toyota facility ? Are the Toyota C-HR spotted having the said Hybrid .

On the strong Hybrid that will most probably be on the top variant here are some speculations - will they use the Daihatsu Rocky / Toyota's / Upcoming Suzuki's Hybrid?

Toyota Hybrid system: - Could be used, but with Suzuki's 1.5L engine ?

-The hybrid versions deliver class-leading fuel efficiency of 26.2 km/L ( Corolla Cross)
- Yaris (3 cyld.1.5-litre hybrid engine (known internally by its M15A-FXE codename), exceptionally high thermal efficiency of 40%, which ensures that more of the energy potential from each drop of fuel is captured.
M15A-FXE runs on the Atkinson combustion cycle, which keeps the intake valves open for longer in order to delay the compression stroke and improve efficiency. It offers a maximum output of 91hp at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 120Nm at just 3,600rpm. A total system output of 116 PS, from a 91 hp/120 Nm 1,490 cc litre inline-three-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine and a 79 hp/141 Nm electric motor. Mileage of ~ 28km/l on the WLTP testing protocol

Daihatsu Hybrid system: - DNGA platform integration will be easier ?

-e-Smart Hybrid, the petrol engine, featuring a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with high thermal efficiency, has outputs of just 82 hp and 105 Nm. Its sole purpose is just to recharge the battery pack
- The e-Smart hybrid is a self-charging hybrid system, meaning there isn’t any external power port to replenish the small battery pack.
-Energy from the battery pack, located under the rear seats for maximum space efficiency, powers the electric motor that has an output of 106 hp (78 kW) and 170 Nm. Daihatsu says this new parallel arrangement of the motor-generator unit allows for a compact dimension.
-Being 100% electric motor motive force, the overall driving sensation is similar to an EV. However, the petrol engine will frequently ignite to a constant engine speed to charge the tiny battery pack, but not drive the wheels.
- A ‘Smart Pedal’ feature allows for one-pedal driving, with strong braking regeneration from the electric motor slowing down the Daihatsu Rocky tremendously in normal traffic conditions.
- Price diff between a Hybrid and non-Hybrid is ~ 2 lakh INR

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki's Creta-rivalling SUV coming in 2020

If Maruti/Toyota finally pull this off, it will be the next big thing in Indian Automobile industry. After years of design and structural improvements, we would be looking at real change in traction technology. While I am pretty excited about this and hoping to be able to buy a hybrid car, I wonder what price range would these cars fall in? Currently EV conversions like Nexon sell with a premium of 3-4 lac over the petrol version so what price range would a car with both EV and IC engine tech fall in?

If they use the Toyota Hybrid system, here it is explained in the Yaris Cross:

The mileage numbers they are able to extract from that hybrid power train are remarkable. From the review, it is almost 23 KMPL. Imagine having that on a Brezza sized car with a petrol engine. That almost negates the need for diesel. On another note, It makes me wonder how the mileage will be if it gets paired with a diesel engine.
