Good To see indian car market is showered with excellent hatch backs. The war is on, let us wait and see who outshines the other. I have seen an ad CNN-IBN (Though I am not 100% sure about the channel), but missed to notice the details.

they should see how the fiat bravo does here in india. if it sells even in some decent numbers. i think i30 could just double its estimated bravo sales. and can make and estimation for this car sales. its a big hatch!! people here would go for the sedan unfortunately. personally i dont mind as long as the car looks cool.

Hyundai should launch the Kia Forte badged as Hyundai i30 here.

The Forte, IMO, has the required 'glitz' and 'glamour' in the Indian context, to take on the D segment.

I dont think that will be a good idea. 1.6 crdi seems like a better bet.

Bottomline will still remain - will folks spend big bucks for a Hyundai badge? I am not too optimistic. Sonata is an extremely capable car but hasnt found a lot of buyers despite a diesel. Lower pricing is an option, but brand acceptability and image are hard to overcome.

That is because sonata is a replica of its competition.

If Hyundai can make an honest car that does not have a copied design then yes people will accept it. Like the rest of its lineup

If they can price the Forte at say Linea or City territory then it will have a fair chance.
It definately looks very good and the rakish front looks like the city.

Wow looks very nice! Reminds me of the Mitsu Evo X 10.

some info about the i30. The only thing I found a bit wierd is the rpm figures for torque(50) and power(620). Just read through and give in your inputs :-

After the amazing success of the Hyundai i10 and i20 in India, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) plans to roll out the C Segment hatchback car Hyundai i30, the next in its famous i-Series cars. Hyundai i30 is one of the most anticipated car launches from Hyundai in India and the company will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the success of Hyundai i30. The i30 will be available in both petrol and diesel versions and is expected to hit Indian roads by the end of 2009. Hyundai has invested heavily into expanding its production capacity and the dealer network. The success of Hyundai i30 will most definitely be bolstered by Hyundai's strong network of dealers as they continue to rule in the Indian car market. Presently, Hyundai has a 250 + strong dealership network pan India. We wait with bated breath for the formal launch of the Hyundai i30 in India.

  • Spacious Interiors
  • EBS (Electronc Stability Program)

Appearance

It seems that lot of attention has gone into the design of the Hyundai i30. The i30 steals the show when comes to appearance as the Hyundai i30 gives out a stylish look. Hyundai's European Team is behind the designing of the premium 5-door hatchback Hyundai i30 and the Hyundai i30 promises not to disappoint from the exteriors.

Comfort

Hyundai i30 looks a small car but it packs many a punches including spacious interiors. The Hyundai i30 is a family car and is likely to be the most spacious in its segment when it gets a final launch in India. The car will include an iPod direct plug and play interface and also steering mounted audio controls for maximum comfort.

Safety

The all new hyundai i30 boasts of all important safety features such as Airbags (6 airbags in total), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking system(ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Traction Control (TC) and many other state of the art features which would surely give the Hyundai i30 cutting edge over its competition.

features wise, I don't see much difference.
what does i30 have that i20 doesn't?

ESP is one.
petrol engines > 1.2L is another one (for manual).
European i20 claims to have ESP too. but no ESP in i20 in India

and 9-12L for a hatchback? that's unchartered territory in India. not even the straight H has attempted it.

hyundai seems to be putting Honda back in the area of pricing. 9-12 lacs for a 1.4L? People would prefer the high end punto or the fully loaded i20 instead. On the other side I do knot know if this info is completely reliable as the RPM figures are way too low to be true. Guess they put 50 instead of 5000 and 620 instead of 6200.

See the link on i30 in Hyundai UK website. I dont find it as attractive as i20. The rear end looks a bit odd for me. They will need to launch it as a sedan if they are serious about selling it here.

The engine specs for 1.4/1.6 petrol and 1.6 CRDi in UK are:

Power: 108bhp@6200 rpm, 124@6300rpm, 113@4000rpm
Torque: 137Nm@5000 rpm, 157@4200rpm, 260@1900-2750rpm

i30 is obviously way above i20 in the segmentation. Car is more like Fiat adventure or Opel Corsa Swing or Indigo Marina type of crossover. I was one waiting to buy this one long time ago (I used to follow this thread). I think it is too inordinately delayed in their Indian launch.
