re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

Is the Rapid even going to get an automatic transmission? Though it was displayed at the Auto Expo, I feel there is a high chance there will be no automatic gearbox on the Rapid, in order to differentiate it from the Vento, like the Vento got the TSI+DSG earlier while the Rapid AT didn’t. Prices for the Polo and Vento BS6 AT are available on request from dealers but there seems to be no Rapid automatic. Zac Hollis had even tweeted that there will be no automatic Rapid at the time of launch. (Link: (VW India discontinues DSG in Polo & Vento 1.0 TSI, replaces with torque converter AT))
Perhaps Škoda will evaluate the conditions and launch the automatic if sales do not pick up?

My guess is Skoda will get the 6 speed AT but a little later like a 2-3 months.

There is no point delaying it as such since they will anyways get rid of this Rapid / Vento model by 2021 (Finally!!!).

So why delay and bring a launch closer to end of cycle. Might as well sell early and as many as possible.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

I am not a big fan of 3-pot engines, but given the weight of the car and it’s dynamics, I feel the 1.0L engine will be super stressed. Experts please help me learn on this.

In fact, how many Rapids can Skoda sell, with just a 3-cyl 1.0L TSI engine?

Another point of change, is Skoda going to fix 17 inch alloys in Monte Carlo and Matte, or is it only for the Expo purpose?

On paper yes it doesn't sound impressive but any review online you watch will tell you it is impressive.

It is well tuned and forget the small Rapid and Polo, this 1.0L TSI does duty in the Octavia, T-ROC, KAroq and Golf which are larger.

It will not be as lusty as the 1.2L TSI but I think performance will be on par or perhaps a tad better. Apparently the reviews speak well of its city driveability as well.

If I am not mistaken, even the upcoming Taigun will have the 1.0 liter engine as the entry level option and most likely this will be the higher selling variant. Somehow, a small 1 liter engine in bigger cars seems a mismatch, but international reports do praise the capability of this engine. Hope it turns out to be adequately powerful.

Slightly off topic - The engine to look out for in the Taigun will be the 1.5 TSI engine though. Sure to be a bit of a firebreather.

the problem is not power, the problem is longevity. How well do the engine cams and covers hold up without getting warped due to excess heat. How do the cooling systems cope up with the excess heat load of a small engine forced to constantly run in high RPMs. Also the german habit of using plastic parts in cooling systems, water pumps and fuel pumps to save costs also puts a spanner into these engines lasting intact for more than 40k kms.

Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI to launch with (6 MT)manual gearbox only, auto option to come later in the year.

But Vento is launched with the 1.0 TSI engine in both manual and automatic gearbox variants.

Quote:
The option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will only be added to the line-up after a few months, likely ahead of the festive season

If the torque converter is as good as the one on Ford Ecosport or the Tata Hexa, I'll be glad since this save so many unsuspecting customers from the horror of a DSG failure besides providing decent on road performance.

re: The Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI Petrol, now launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs

2020 Skoda Rapid is likely to be offered in two variants - Ambition and Style, and expect it to be priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 10.99 lakh ex-showroom.

Zac Hollis, Brand Director Skoda Auto India, said The 1.0 TSI in the Rapid is 25 per cent more economical than the outgoing Petrol engine and is cheaper to maintain than a diesel engine.

Looks like it's being launched today at 12:30, along with Karoq and Superb. Received this message from Skoda:
