Unfortunately you need to blame it on the manufacturers localisation(or quality compromise) strategy. I doubt if locally made products are inferior if the quality can be maintained. Obviously the price advantage will reduce in the process

The key word to focus on in that statement is "almost". Its not completely sold out in 9 months. Not the kind of enthusiasm that would warrant setting up a local manufacturing unit.

He also said the vRS was sold out in April 2020.

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...n-india-417042

6 months later it still isn't sold out and is now available at a discount of 5 lakhs.

Remember Zac is in charge of marketing so he gets paid to pull these little tricks now and then.

Just don't fall for it.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Even if the CKD route is chosen for the karoq I dont think Skoda would lower the ex-showroom price of the car. The on-road price would decrease automatically with CKD and with discounts during festivals, price would decrease further.

Skoda would be happy to sell 150-200 Karoq's per month and earn more profit per car.

It's a VAG thing, VW & Skoda both lie about being sold out. Remember the VW Polo GTI also? VW said it was sold out and a few months later, the car had a miraculous price cut on leftover stock.

Can confirm this for the Karoq. I took a TD in Mumbai and keep getting calls from the dealership with higher discount numbers each time. It is frankly too expensive in Mumbai for what it offers at 31L OTR (20% Road Tax). I'll be quite surprised if they've managed to sell Karoqs in this city atleast.

However, wouldn't Zac be talking about dealer sales with some sort of Consignment Sales arrangement?

To be charitable to Zac, I think he sincerely meant that all 245s had been booked, and hence 'spoken for'. A fair number of bookers would have then got cold feet and cancelled.

I feel bad for them. But hey, cheers! The crank sensor for my Superbly Superb just arrived and it took only 14 days!

What discounts they were offering? Can you please share some ballpark figure?

1.5L-2L. I have a feeling this is dealer dependent - if someone has inventory to push and cash flow issues then they'll go even further if you go there with a chequebook.

From what I've seen on here, the Bangalore guys haven't gotten too much discount.

They ideally should launch a cheaper version after going the CKD route by deleting a few features like panoramic sunroof, etc

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

The Karoq is sold out, they are not taking any bookings now. A friend who drove mine wanted to book one but couldn't.

The dealerships are selling the demo cars at slight discounts so those are available. Only two left in Bangalore, both white I believe.

Just completed a 5 day 1600 KM round trip on the Karoq. I can't be happier, the car is an absolute dream to drive.

Hopefully, I will not be jolted awake by the Skoda ASS.

I was kind of hoping for this and checked with Skoda in Hyderabad. While the vRS is definitely available, they flat out refused any discount. :(

The disadvantage of being the only Skoda dealer in Hyderabad. It was the same with Karoq. While other BHPians in this thread were getting a good amount of discount, be it Delhi, Pune, etc the local dealer in Hyderabad was not interested at all. I had zeroed-in on the Karoq in September and didn't ask for too high a discount but even that didn't work out.

Isn’t the CBU limit for 2500 cars as per GOV norms , then why are companies restricting to only 1000 units ¿
