Nice thread, brings back a lot of memories

My first car with my own money was the Ford Figo aka Bluey and I was 26 at the time. Looking back now she was tremendous value for money at <7L on road for a solid diesel hatch with ABS, airbags, alloys, etc.

Bluey was with me for 5 years and 70k km and the ownership experience was so good that picking up the Ecosport next was such an easy decision.

At the age of 30. I was using a Santro Xing prior to that, the first car in our family. My dad was 58 and I was 20 when we bought the Santro. Both the cars are special

In 2009 after completing my graduation I started working in small company across the city. I used to commute in city bus. While returning from the job, the most captivating thing while looking outside window of bus seat was airplane like dashboard of CIVIC, hands down best dashboard for any car of that time. That time I dreamt of owning CIVIC one day.

That dream came true when I bought 2009 used Civic in 2016, which happens to be my first car as well. Thoroughly enjoyed it for 5 years and then bought new Ignis. Civic had big influence in choosing a car like Ignis with high ground clearance and tallboy design.

My first post in Team-bhp and couldn't have been about a better topic. Sharing few pictures of my first love.
Booked my first car - Torque Blue Swift ZDI in Jan 2014 and coincidentally she became mine on the 14th of Feb (couldn't have asked for a better date). I made some amazing memories covering 1.12 lakh kms in 7.5 years before deciding to depart with her. I wish I had space and money to hold on to it but growing safety concerns and space requirements meant I had to upgrade. However, I am happy to have created so many amazing memories and I am still holding on to the spare Liqui Moly Diesel purge cans just to remember her by.

Ford Fusion was my father's first car purchase from his own money.
Amazing built for the money and such VFM!
I consider it the most underrated car as 90% India doesn't know this car existed.

I was using our Company vehicle which was shared by me and dad. Since I had some funds, decided to get an Automatic small hatch for dad. I didn't do much research and bought the Tiago when I was 28. We still have the car after 4 years.

It's a little tricky to answer. My '00 Hyundai Accent GLS that I bought in my mid-20s is the one I consider *my* first car but the fact is that it was slightly out of my budget when I got it and Dad put in about 25% of the outlay.



The next car I bought was a 2006 Swift Vxi when I moved to Bangalore nearly a decade later. Bought it "pre-worshipped" for cash and kept it till last year!

My first car was Hyundai Santro Xing XO bought in October 2005 which is just 8 months of me joining my first Job. It was an achievement since I wanted to buy a possession with my own money and pay using my own money. Luck was such that by virtue of the company I worked with I got 100% On Road funding (including Road tax and Insurance). So did not have to put down any down payment. Icing on the cake was, it was Diwali time so Hyundai was giving free seat covers and cassette Player with every vehicle sold. The cassette player was Blaupunkt which went out of stock so dealership gave me a Sony Xplod CD/MP3 Player and Speakers. My car was taken inside the workshop so no other customer could notice and the Player was installed. Still remember the Delivery Day.

1 month later I got an Alpine 4 channel Amplifier and 2 X 2 Channel Sony Xplod Subwoofers installed from Aftermarket


As of yesterday 9 March 2022 I sold my Santro Xing after 17 years of service. Good thing is my cousin bought it so I can see the car whenever I want.

Though my first vehicle is Pulsar 200 dtsi at the age of 23, after joining a corporate; but my first car was a Maruti Suzuki Ritz Zxi, after 5 years of work. One trivia with my first car buying is that, I did not even take a test drive of the car, just by reading a Team-BHP review of Ritz (Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review) by GTO, convinced me that this is the car for me

My first car was Hyundai Accent Executive. It was a no-brainer for me since I love cars with long hoods. In those days, only Honda City and Hyundai Accent had this form factor.

I've tried to keep it in mint condition. Still going strong!

First car purchased with own money was a tiny blue hatchback. The aim was to buy the most powerful vehicle available within my modest budget. Initially, I had planned to buy a 2nd hand sedan, but lack of confidence and being relatively new to the city pushed me to buy a brand new, spanking Honda Brio.
I had been working for more than 1 year and the yearly bonus payout gave me the final nudge to go forward with the purchase. The car was bought in August 2015
The car was aptly christened Pocket Rocket. Low kerb weight with 88bhp on tap made it an absolute riot. Driving the car up the hills of Coorg and Ooty was an absolute pleasure. Yes the boot was small but was deep enough to engulf a couple of bags for a quick weekend getaway.
Sadly, I had to let it go in 2021. It had been stationery throughout the 2020 -21 years of lockdown and was starting to spew trouble requiring major overhauls of the suspension and brakes. I moved onto a more family friendly and spacious CSUV (Nissan Kicks). Even here, secretly, I picked up the most powerful vehicle available within budget.

I bought Fiat Punto 90 HP with my own money at the age of 33. Till then I had our family cars Santro BS2 and WagonR Duo doing the duties. Itch of long drives required sturdy and reliable car and Punto clicked all check boxes. She is still going strong though used as beater now but it’s always love at first sight whenever I look at her. Attached are the pics I clicked of her few days back.

I purchased my first car Hyundai i10 1.2 Asta in 2011 when I was 29 (In fact my first vehicle as my cycle was gifted by my uncle when I was in eighth standard and bike was gifted by my father after my engineering). I am still holding it.

At that time, I was sold on the i20 Petrol Asta Red color at that time and saved money for it. I think it was around 6.8 Lakhs then. Since I don't like taking loans, I waited till I can save the money in my bank account and all test drives done with my friends, reading Team BHP reviews, etc. When I visited showroom, I saw i10 and then decided and purchased the i10 Asta Grey color which was some Rs.50,000 cheaper compared to i20 and keep the remaining money in my account.

Previous to that, my car purchasing experience ended up in failure in 2007 again with my own money (when i was 25 years old). I came closer to owing Maruti Wagon-R but it did not happen after dealer let me down.

Kia Seltos 1.4 GTX (O). Purchased it last year, a day before Diwali at the age of 29. Love it to the core.

I was 22 when I bought my first car. It was a 2006 Tata Indica DLS Turbo, Smoke Metal was the name of the color. Incidentally, that happened to be our first car in the entire family.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to drive it extensively, as I traveled out of country after a year of buying it. The car was largely sitting in the garage. When I came back to India after 5 years, I decided to upgrade and hence sold it off.

The car was driven 23k kms in 6 years, and was a very good pre-owned car to buy at that time

Even though the car came with its own niggles and was sparingly driven, it still remains close to my heart.
